I believe the speed sensor is the same as the one used in the Scenic

A tad cruel perhaps but Simon has a point that Renault Australia should take note of.

Do look after owners of past Renaults; they are a pool of possible future owners. Easier to persuade someone with a happy experience of owning oddities than to convert Toyota, Mazda, VW etc mainstream buyers. And finding one's not-so-old Renault to be a bit of a parts orphan is going to undermine that plan.

    cheers! Peter

My experiences (plural) with the Adelaide Renault dealer have turned me off buying another modern Renault. They seem to enjoy reinforcing the thought that owning and servicing a Euro is just too hard.

Given that Rick works for a Renault dealer though, I would have thought they would have been his first port of call.

When the speed sensor on my clio died i thought i would try Essendon RENAULT, for no other reason than convenience, i was passing
within 200 metres of them on a twice daily basis, they turned out to be very helpful and pleasant to deal with, although they didnt have one in stock they got one in for me. The spare parts man said that as they had a few enquiries recently that they would keep one in stock. This was a pleasant surprise as i have had some very unhelpful encounters with spare parts departments in the past

Yeah was that the pommy guy? Can't remember his name but he used to drive R12's back in the UK when he was at uni. Buy one for 50 quid and drive it till it stops and buy another one. Nice bloke and does know what a Renault over 10 years old is. He'd love to see your Alpine and would try to help with parts but probably not much he could do.

Well, I think they do a reasonable job of it. My folks 95 Laguna is serviced regularly by a Renault Dealer. They even resolved a niggling electrical issue (for free) and gave them the official Laguna electrical workshop manual to boot. In my experience, local parts pricing isn't always the best, but not always outrageously higher either. Depends on what you need and the convenience factor too...

I used to get my Clio serviced at a dealer, until i took it to get the air con serviced. The ac service man looked into the engine bay and said there's a large bolt laying the engine bay, this of course was cause for alarm.Apon closer inspection the bolt turned out to be the alternator mounting bolt. They had obviousely neglected to tighten it when they did a cam belt change, the tensioner bracket was the only thing holding the alternator in place. I didn't bother bother to tell them of their stuffup, because i didn't think i could do it and keep a civil tongue, i now take my car elsewhere
