Default How many Laguna Phase 1's out there?

Hello all. After speaking with a fellow Renault Laguna Phase 1 owner today it appears that there is not a lot of these cars left on the road. Who has one, and if so what are the details? ie RXE, V6 auto, manual etc.
I believe there were only around 350 of them sold during 1995 and 1996 before Volvo pulled the pin on the imports to Oz?

To start the ball rolling I have a Green V6 built in Jan 1995. I put a black leather interior in it from a doner car about 3 years ago. After selling the Megane I am getting is back to a roadworthy state to become a daily driver for a while.

    Over to you.......

When the transmissions fail they can be bought for a song, making the V6 models excellent donors for RWD Pugs! This is happening.

Thats because they are 17 years old and a pain in the arse to work on, also they will not make a future classic.

Mine is running like a dog at the moment. Feels like it is only running on 4 or 5 cylinders and using excess fuel. Will check plugs, HT leads this weekend. Any other ideas?
I thought replacing the faulty Cat would fix the problem but since getting and new one fitted it still has no power and misses like a bugger!

    Leather?
Autos both, green with cloth very very noisy engine, silver with leather has jumped a tooth on timing chain and requires a rebuild.

My white RXE 4 pot manual is still floating about Melbourne.

I converted it from blue cloth to black leather (got some lovely soft leathers from the UK), installed electric seats and factory cruise from a V6 model (with a custom throttle linkage and a Xantia vacuum pod), and put Scenic alloys on it.

Was a decent car, its sale paid for a trip to the US

Could be a number of things, do you have access to a XR25 to do a bit of diagnostics with? Maybe oxygen sensor??

Unfortunately no XR25 (been looking but rarely they come up these days). The oxygene sensor was replaced about two years ago, but the car has been sitting for almost that long (started on every other weekend). I might have the old one that i could put back in as a test as it was OK.

I have a CLIP (with the early plug for everything back to an R25) - still to acquire a Window PC to run it on, but once i do (in a couple of weeks) you're welcome to pop round one weekend and we can see whats what.

On topic, My mum has a 4 cylinder manual.
I had a 4 cylinder manual, that I sold to a guy in trentham.

And 2 more 2 liter manuals floating around our area. Ones a nice blue one with 16 inch wheels factory leather and factory sunroof. It also is a 96 model and has drum rear brakes!

Sticking to thread too - have owned my 4 pot manual for just on 2 years now. (Is the former Haakon one). Happy to report its still going strong and about to roll over to 160 000 km. A very economical beastie too. Generally under 7km/L on the highway and comfortably under 10 around town. T'is a lovely car to drive - just got in from 5hrs driving today and nowhere near as tired as I expected. The leather seats are very comfy for long distances. Presume it was the new price that kept them out of contention for most people.

If there were only 307 of them originally, there can't be many left then given the number that have been wrecked. Also probably explains why there have been no takers for the mint condition cloth seats and carpets I have been trying to give away recently. C'est la vie - off to the tip they go.

    Cheers

My 4 cyl manual still plodding along. 21 yo and almost 190 000km now, but its age is beginning to catch up with it. Next major failure if I don't have the parts will probably be its last. (I have a spare 4 cyl auto of the same colour tucked away for parts that has been invaluable for keeping mine going for the last few years.

There's 2 dead ones in my backyard. 1 a V6 and the other a 2 litre manual. My mate in Melton also has 2 dead ones. Both 2 litre. 1 auto 1 manual so there's 4 that haven't been crushed yet.

The Phase 1 Laguna is the only series Laguna I haven't owned. There are a few still doing the rounds here in Adelaide. I know of 4, a green, white and 2 silvers that are still getting around. Saw a number of the wagon variants while in Portugal in October. They looked very cool!
