Default 1961 Renault Jolly Beach Car Owner

Hello, my name is Sherrie and I recently purchased a 1961 Renault Jolly Beach Car. I am having a hard time finding any history on these little beauties, does anyone here know anything about them?

I LOVE these cars... But I thought they were all based on Fiat platforms as per attached link.

Never realised Renault did one also?!

From what I've been able to find out so far only a few of the Renault CV4 Jolly's were built by Ghia. They are rarer than the Fiat Jolly cars.

    Hi Sherrie,
You have bought a very rare and wonderful vehicle. The running gear would be from the Renault 4CV/"750" or the Dauphine (of the early '50s to the early '60s). Should be plenty of used parts in the USA. New parts would be from a few specialists in the USA, but plenty of in Europe.

What kind of condition is your "Jolly" in?? Some pics to wet our appetites !!!!!

    Enjoy,
    Ray

The "official" model name for the Renault 4CV beach car is the Renault 4CV Resort Special. In 1960, fifty (consecutively numbered) 4CVs were dispatched from the Renault Billancourt factory in France to Ghia in Italy to be built as Resort Specials. There was only the single batch of fifty cars built, with all of the finished vehicles originally being sent to the States for sale. Apparently only eleven of them are now thought to have survived.

Ok here she is.....so far I have had pretty good luck finding parts, just getting into the restoration so I'm sure there will be more that will be needed as the project gets underway.

So another has emerged! Welcome to our forum Sherrie.

These are pretty rare and special little cars. Yours is the second that we've seen in public from USA, as one of our other folk has said.

It should be sensational when properly restored.

Have you come across Jacques' Rear Engined Renault Spares in California? He'd be a good local source of parts, except for some of the body and trim for the interior which is pretty much unique.

That's one sweet looking car. This should make for an easy restoraton depending on hidden rust. A bit of re-chroming, body work and a mechanical overhaul and she's good to go and it doesn't look like you need to go chasing for too many parts.

There are many on Aussiefrogs who know about these cars and would be happy to help with information if you need it.

Nice score Sherrie, looks very restorable and should be very rewarding when finished. Happy days

Thank you. Yes I'm excited to see what she will look like once finished. Working on getting her running hope to have her fired up her in a week or so.

If thaws cars were sent to Italy in 1960 why are most of the ones and mine considered 1961 models? I saw one on the Internet dated 1960. I'm confused!!!

They would not have been an inexpensive car even in the optimistic early 1960's, so would likely not have shifted off the floor very quickly. Perhaps some were sold in 1961 with the year of first registration becoming the year of the car. Is the date of first registration detailed on the registration documents of the car.

Wasn't there an R4 version also, or am I thinking of something else. I remember an R4 with cut down sides like that.
