    Default V8 Clio IV

    Got your attention.
The Clio IV has a 7 inch tablette mounted on the dashboard which integrates the radio and other functions as if they were apps. One new app to be offered is an engine noise synthesiser. It takes the engine sound and having analysed its frequencies, adds sounds which creates the noise of a V8 or V6 or a motorbike twin within the cabin. The simulated engine follows the revs and load of the real motor. Externally it sounds normal.

I like this sort of devious stuff, and recently proposed the possibility
to my son, who's building an electric car.

    Nothings new.
Back in the 70's a mate had a Diahatsu HiJet van. A tiny little box on wheels powered by a 351cc 3 cylinder 2 stroke and the sterio put out more power. The speakers were huge from a home audio system and he had a tape of a top fuel dragster blasting off the line and would often play it when we were sitting at the lights next to something tuff. The looks we got were quite interesting, especially from the people on the footpath.

. . . as the something tuff raced off down the street leaving the Hijet in it's dust I'd imagine!

Yep, I've got a CD with V8 sound effects, eg. Top Fuel dragsters doing a burnout then a quarter mile pass, Doorslammers idling rough then doing a burnout, etc, etc. It's even got the sound of crowd going off!
I like to play it up loud when I'm stuck in traffic and when the people look around wondering WTF? I pretend to be looking around too, wondering where is that coming from!
It's a good way to get everyone out of bed on the weekends too!

So 'there' is the flaw in this app, Gerry. People like to have other people hear the mayhem, not just the ones inside the car!
    Cheers Renomad

Looks like the RS version is going to get specific sounds, such as F1 or R5 Turbo sounds
But you wouldn't do it anyway, as in race mode the RS promised to backfire

There is also an iPad app called XLR8...Free or maybe $0.99
As you accelerate and change gears the ipad senses this and also gives the V8 rorty exhaust sound through your in car sub woofer / stereo jack input. You have a choice for gear ratios, economy or sport driving style, more or less burnout at start, same for braking and adjustable drift

A sub woofer with windows wound down ensures everyone can hear it!!

You can buy additional cars such as Dodge Viper, Ford GT40 Ferrari 458 and Lambo all for $6 the lot

but they are not on sale in France in a vehicle size that is practical for the cities, the government charges a large tax premium for polluting cars above the norm, you have to be rich to pay for the petrol, you will have rocks thrown at you and you will be arrested by the thought police for having lost your sense of humour.

And guess what, the Japanese have built a motor noise into the stereo of the latest 2.5l Mazda 6 as standard.
They have figured all people, young and old are still addicted to a car noise.
