    Default 406 Broken Speedo

Hello Iam looking at a 1998 406 it has a broken speedo Does anyone know if this is common on these and what may be the cause. Is it an expensive fix. I guess the answer may be how long is a piece of string? but I thought I may as well ask???

The speedo is electric, and often the problem is dry joints. If you are able to use a fine soldering iron there is a good chance it can be fixed easily and cheaply.

There are 3 possible causes of the fault:
    1. The sender on the gearbox - would need to be replaced - probably about $70-90.00
    2. The speedo head itself - accessible by removing the console from under the dash top - don't remove the perspex face or the needles, whatever you do.
    3. The speed control unit which is klocated behind the glove box. This is what was wrong with mine. I got a new one - $150.00 from the dealers, with club discount. They can be pulled apart and joints resoldered too. I posted something on this about a month ago.

Oh and I suppose a busted cable - highly unlikley
