Default Hey Demannu or other experts

Do you know if a 406 ST gearbox will swap into a 406 V6?

Or if not do you know where I can get a gearbox for a V6? How much are they? Thanks.

    No, they're very different gearboxes.

V6 gearboxes are thin on the ground, and rather expensive. They do come up from time to time though.

What exactly do you need one for?

Well, I was harbouring silly thoughts about this:

but I have now abandoned the ideas with your help, thanks.
Someone here might have the means to bother. It looks nice but not enough info. I have asked him the year and the mileage and will post this if he replies.

When you say gearbox, are you thinking of a manual conversion or a replacement automatic?

Either way they're not easy to find, as the failure of the automatic in the V6 is generally the reason the cars are retired. A shame though, because a rebuilt 4HP20 gearbox is a lovely thing to drive.

I saw that car too, but by the time you get the gearbox out, have it rebuilt, and put it back in, fixing everything else that will need doing along the way, you will have substantially overcapitalised for a car that in perfect condition nowadays is only worth between 4-5k anyway.

Good point, but personally I wouldn't go through the trouble of installing a secondhand 4HP20, when for similar money you can recondition your own.
Coupes and sedans have slightly different gearboxes too, but they can be made to work.
