Looks OK. How low is low? It'll be hard to compete on cost if they don't sell 750,000 a year.

No ground clearance, exposed plastic nose cone - that car is not suitable for countries with poor roads. The designers have never seen a rough road. I'll bet it's not designed for owner maintenance.
It's odd seeing 301 as a model number. The 301 was important to Peugeot - it was the expansion of the new range upwards from the little 201 into the family sector. Andre Boillot was killed driving a 301 racer.

I can't wait for the new 404, in ten or 15 years. Probably a plastic blob with an anti-gravity levitation engine.

If Peugeot are serious about a car suitable for poor roads they need to look back to the 504. Or for a front drive design the 204.
The reality is a car needs 150 mm ground clearance minimum to operate in difficult conditions but the nose has to be higher - because anything forward of the front axle reaches an obstacle before the wheels rise. Try doing a three point turn on a domed road or crossing a table drain and you'll see what I mean. The nose on a Falcon is quite a nuisance. Low profile tyres are a negative and the car should be able to be bogged without shredding its drive boots and doing major damage to its structure. Many modern SUV's struggle to match the off road ability of the 504.

I have to say that the engine line up is pretty unimpressive (on paper anyway).
    • 1.2 l VTi 52 kW (71 bhp) (1) with manual or EGC ( electronic gearbox control)
    • 1.6 l HDi 68 kW (92 bhp) with manual gearbox
    • 1.6 l VTi 85 kW (115 bhp) with manual or automatic gearbox
Wheels magazine has said very positive things about the 3 cylinder engine in the 208. I think that this car may be getting a big large for that though. Looks like this car isnt intended for UK, so I would say we wont get it either.

Not a bad looking car though. If the 308 replacement looks like this it wouldnt be a bad thing.

    Low Cost = Low Quality?

Good points on modern cars, they are designed for mirror smooth super highways, not gravel or dirt roads of rural Canada or Australia.

Looks good but not for the Oz or European markets. Being a budget car it will most probably be more reliable due to lack of accessories, Fap filters and elaborate electronics. Sounds like a good Peugeot to me.

Yes I thought the Citroen version was out yesterday. Meant to be sold in China I read. This car looks pretty good though. Still with the AL4 I see...
