    Default 306 N5 advice please

I'm going to check out a cheap 306 hatch N5 for the boy on Thursday.
Is there any specific stuff I should look for?
My usual thing is to just look everywhere I can, under and in the engine bay, give the suspension a shake, check for leaks and give it a drive.
Look for accident repair/rust and check fluids etc. If it's clean and no funny noises and goes and handles and stops and they provide a roadworthy is there much else I should be aware of?
Apparently there is a service history too.

    Thanks.

Good luck to you I have 2 x N5s for my son and daughter. We all love them, one of Peugeots best models.

As far as checking basically the same for any car and includes the tests you have stated. I would add driving at a 45 degree angle up a driveway to listen for creaks or thumps to test droplinks, wishbone bushes, strut top bushes etc.

Most important is service history re: cambelt changes, waterpump, regular oil & filter changes etc as these cars will last for ages if well maintained.

Check to see if the cooling fans work if you can (turn a/c on whilst running) and make sure power window and mirrors work as well as a/c working. They're common problems.
Other than that, I can't think of anything else off the top of my head (:

Andrew pretty much covered it (:

The #1 thing on my 306 list would be to check that the heater works.

I thought I miss something! Haha
On that topic SLC, if the heater doesn't work, does that mean the heater piping is just looped through the bulk head and by passes the matrix?

If the heater isn't working and the pipes are bypassed and all, are parts available to fix the matrix?
Would they be horribly expensive ? I realize it would be a nasty job to change but how nasty? If it's like the 406 I wouldn't want to do it. I attempted to remove the heater from my 406 wreck but never quite got there and in the process broke bits of the glovebox and stuff. I imagine it would be fairly similar? Like a complete dash dismantle?

Most likely - it's a very cheap fix to a leaking matrix that way, but means the heater no longer works.

I don't think there is any issue with getting parts - it's just either an expensive job to pay someone to do or a time consuming job for you to do. Unlike the 405 it's a full dash out job. I'm not familiar with the 406 requirements.

There was a thread on here some time ago (with pictures) dealing with the 306 matrix change, but it may have vanished in the great crash. This thread has some helpful links.

On top of what has already been posted... check:

The rear window wiper/washer; that is works...

All door electrics.... mainly for the window switches...

The petrol filler neck was replace under a recall.

That the indicator switch in the stalk doesn't 'click'

That the fuel filter is still nesting nicely where it is supposed to be... they are plastic and when replace in some services might be put back poorly (cable ties or even nothing holding them at all) causing the joins to the fuel lines to take stresses and vibration and of course they fail and leak.

That the heater blower motor is relatively silent...

That the pivots for the rear parcel shelf are intact.
