It has more power than the DFZ and is a detuned version of the D6D which is fitted to the 405 SRi in Europe. Both D6D and DFV use Motronic management.
US and Aus got the DFV, compression of 8.3 means you can run them on 91 octane.
It has 110 hp c/w 105 for the DFZ and 125 for the D6D. The D6D has more torque than any of the 8 valves but power maxs out at 5500. I have converted a local DFV to D6D specs with a cam from a BX GTi 8 valve and flat top pistons.

So, better than the DFZ but not as good as the 130 hp GTi, S3 Aus GTi or Euro spec 405.

Yes, only real difference is the head which has the semidowndraft inlet ports and of course a totally different manifold to go with it.

How does the DFV cam compare to the DFZ cam?

Or is it possible to swap heads? Or is it better to keep the whole DFV as it is and drop it in (with the ECU and associated crap of course).

The bottom end is identical to the DFZ same pistons even. Keep it as it is if the engine is good. I reckon the DFV cam is the same too, certainly the same lift.

Why not just fit a DKZ?
In my case (with a bit of luck and time) I managed to get the good cam and pistons, without them not a lot of gain. Of course if you find a good one that will drop straight in it could be a good plan.

With such a low compression ratio, does it suit a turbo setup as standard?
....now watch a Peugeot turn into a corner!
