Its only a matter of time before we see a 508 Coupe.

The question is will it be wearing a Pininfarina badge and will there be a Cabriolet ?

I doubt that Peugeot will do one, even though it would be a good idea. They're on life support and niche models are FAR from their main concern. It would not be a Pininfarina design; those days are long gone, sadly.

True, but its new models that create interest and sales.

Globaly Peugeot sales are down, partly because of the economic crisis and partly because the car game has moved on.

Most of the car sales success is by premium badge brands that satisfy today's buyers perception of "Premium" , quality and image. Chineses buyers, that now account for a 34% increase in sales for BMW and Mercedes, want a premium car. Peugeot has had a presence in China for a long time but it is not percieved as a Premium brand which it so deserves.

The 508 is starting to change that but it does not go far enough. A higher class Coupe and Cabriolet would tempt those buyers.

The VW group have Audi as their presitge model which in essence is nothing more than a VW with cosmetics and a fancy wardrobe. Yet it has become desireable and buyers will pay a premium for it and it competes with BMW and Mercedes.

Peugeot should take note here and do the same.

In other words can Peugeot make a "Cartier" ? I am not talking about a half way house with tacky add on's but something that is good enough for buyers to consider it against Audi, BMW and Mercedes. Don't get me wrong here, the 508 is a very fine car but these are the buyers where vanity, status and quality sit above all else and there are plenty of those around who are prepared to spend on that image.

So the market and the money is there, its just having the right product to meet the demand and expectation.

Quality compact saloons / sedans sell. Peugeot need one.

Premium Executive / large Saloons / sednas sell well. Peugeot need to expand on the 508.

Also why do Peugeot still use their name in full on their cars. It's the oldest car maker and a nice Lion front [ bonnet ] and back would suffice and would just lift the cars image. People know Peugeot and the Lion badge.

Another example is the Lexus badge. Its a Toyota Aurion and you have just paid $25K more for the Lexus. Its almost laughable but it works !
