Might also be a sticky idle speed stepper motor (look for a motarolla labled black thing on the throttle body)

    Default Not sure about sti

But my mi had a sender on the thermistat housing which when removed coused a high idle,an open circuit on this sender tells the ecu that the motor is cold and the mixture shoald be richened and idle speed increased [choke function]it tends to produce some strange results if the fault is intermittent check that the wire is attached to the sender .check for air leaks especialy the plastic boot that attaches the air cleaner to the throttle body ,they crack .pugs
