    Default 307 Front end Shudder

    Hi,

I have a 2002 2.0L 307 with 180Ks on board. Never-the-less it is in excellent condition, except for a momentary shudder when I take off.

Thought it was clutch at first, but it doesn't always do it. It never does it when pulling a trailer or under a load or starting up hill.

Never does it with slightly higher revs to start.

It feels like axle tramp, or gearbox mount or suspension bush is worn.

It has just passed rego and no bushes were reported as worn.

Is there a known problem, or does anyone have any useful suggestion?

    Regards,

    Leigh

    Hi Leigh,

Would this be a 2.0 petrol or diesel engine?

    Default 307 Shudder

    Thanks Simon,

    It is petrol.

    Just had another thought.

I recently had the spark plugs changed and the shudder was gone for a few weeks.

Could it be the plug coils?

As an aside, went to local Peugeot dealer to change the plugs, that I was supplying and nearly fell over when quoted $280 to change them!!!!!! Needless to say plan B leapt into operation.

    Great car, lousy Dealership!

    Thanks,

    Leigh

Be thankful you don't have a 406 V6. The "early" motors have coil packs - currently $220 a set on eBay (about $400+ from the dealers I believe). Later V6 motors have individual coils at $110 each unless you can find a good deal on eBay. The rear bank requires the removal of the inlet manifold. Luckily plugs dont need replacing very often.

BUT one wants to be certain that's the problem though before forking out any money.

    Hi Leigh,

I think the forum have suggested the most obvious & indeed it could still be that it is electrical in nature.

My daughter's 206 GTi has a similar issue that is related to a worn engine / gearbox mount. This makes the symptom reasonably repeatable & is a relatively low cost fix.

Contact me "off-air" any time for a catch-up.

    Cheers,
    Kim.

It could be - there is only one coil pack that sits over the top of all 4 plugs, but it would be an expensive guess.

Does this only occur when the engine has been sitting cold for a long time, or whenever the engine is run?

For info, it's the same engine as KIMDEB's daughter's 206 GTi.

    Simon

    Default Shudder

    Hi Simon,

Engine temp doesn't seem to be a factor.

First start in morning may or maynot do it. Usually not.

Thinking about it, it is probalby most noticable when the car has warmed up.

    Thanks,

    Leigh

first move, go check that your engine software is up to date.
dont even worry about the spark plugs yet.

I would still look at the top engine mount I had similar issues on a 406 and the top engine mount and stabiliser bar mounts needed replacing

    Good luck

My C3 has a slight low spot after you start it when its cold. After it warms up its fine. Is this what your talking about?
