    Default 504 Rear Seat Removal

    Hi there

Just wondering how I'd go about removing the rear seat of my 504 (I'm talking about the backrest, not the base). I had a quick look today and couldn't really see anything obvious....

    Thanks
    Thomas

you need to remove the bottom first, by un hooking the two straps that come down at the front

then once thats out you will see some little bent over metal tabs that sort of hook the backrest into place at the bottom, bend those tabs up by hand, then push the whole backrest up to release the hooks that you cant see at the top.

the back rest comes apart each side come out seperatly, and the armrest/centre bit must be unscrewed to remove.

    Default 504 rea seat

Don't want to derail the thread, but it's funny how certain things can trigger a flood of memories.

I haven't owned a 504 since 1995, but I reckon I must have pulled the back seat out of mine (3 different cars) about a hundred times. Various reasons, but mostly installing sound equipment and wiring.

I used to love sitting in the back seat every time I could get someone else to drive and I even fantasised about making a couch out of a 504 back seat once....

    ...aaah memories

Now, that sounds like a good idea...

But I'll have a go at the seat on the weekend... Thanks for the quick replies!

504s must hold the record for the greatest number of passengers that have fallen asleep in transit.
The seats are just so comfortable or was it my boring presence that put the passengers to sleep?

504s and 505s really do have lovely rear seats. The angle is such that you are tilted back slightly and slouch without actually slouching. My friends have been amazed after getting in.
I have a spare 505 passenger front seat and I'm going to one day make a deck chair out of it.
I already have the base and arms from an office chair, so it won't take long. But it's all in storage now so will have to wait.
When I drove a taxi, I could hardly wait to get out of the 2004 Falcon and into my 1985 505SR to drive home.
Man, it was a serious relief !

you lot better never go for a ride in the rear of a 604 then

you will never want to sit in the rear of a 504/505 ever again

    the difference is unbelievable

front seats of a 604 not so great but the rears are one of the best

I'll have to ask someone for a quick slouch in one next Bastille Day....if I can find a 604....they're pretty thin on the ground up here.
A few years ago there was a chap who had one with an electric radiator fan.....it really freed up a lot of space in the engine bay and, I seem to remember, on the crankshaft pulley. He may have had the battery in the boot, too....but it's too long ago to remember for sure. Must have been 10 years ago...

You have to be right! The main thing what comes in to my mind of my parents 504(what I still own) that as a kid I allways slept in it when my parents were driving!! Love it!

Be sure to take photos of whatever little treasures you find under your seat.

Under my back seat I found some rice, a few coins, two dog biscuits, and a condom.

    Default Stuff you have found

I once found a condom (unused thankfully!!!) in behind the steering wheel centre cover in a 504. A young guy had owned it before the old guy who I bought it from.

It was probably the exhaust gases leaking in through the boot lid that sent you to sleep.

Thankfully, I did not find any condoms, probably due to the fact that the previous owner was an elderly lady... I did find a builders pencil, though. Unfortunately, all of the markings were worn off it.
