    Default RIP Bert Shankland

    Sad passing of East African Safari legend,Bert use to be ceo of Marshall motors-Peugeot agents in Dar es Salaam,Tanzania.He took 404 to 1965/66 Victory.Marshalls office/showroom is these days the Citibank building.Peugeot sales went soaring in Africa after the great performance in the tough Rally.

    Not that I remember him, far from it, I had left Kenya by that time with my parents and I was only 17 at the time, and wasn't greatly into cars at the time. Marshalls were the people we bought our 203s from, and they used to do the major services.

    I recall the 403 in the late 50s in the sarafi, and I'll bet Marshalls probably supplied the car.

    Does anyone have any videos of the safaris of the time? I have seen some, and could probably borrow them again. Are there any on Utube etc?

    Sad news for sure. A legend.

    Bert was the workshop manager for Tanganyika Motors, not Marshalls. Marshalls was the Kenyan importer.
