Default Mechanic for 405 SRDT in Brisbane

Can anyone recommend a trustworthy & good mechanic in the Brisbane area? And for that matter, who to avoid. I have several issues with my pug & am looking for someone honest & reliable. The key is stuck in the ignition, the brakes are soft, the steering is sloppy and worst of all, the radiator is losing water & looks like there are beads of oil sitting on top when I keep topping up the radiator. I had work done at Le French Motor (Woolloongabba). I was losing water and a split heater hose was detected & fixed. The brakes were checked because he was concerned about the low level of brake fluid in the reservoir but found no problem with the brakes. But when I picked up the car (it was in the shop for over a week & I had to keep chasing him about what was happening) I noticed that the brakes were soft and not how they were when I left the car with him. I've not been back because I'm not sure how I feel about this place. He padded the work sheet up with things like 'new air conditioner filter' when all I really wanted done was fix the heater hose. Any advice most welcome. Sorry for the ramble!

    Hi Susan,

I’m not anywhere near Brisbane so have no direct knowledge. However, …if you look at this thread Newbie looking for good mechanic in brisbane there are several suggestions for good Pug mechanics in Brisbane. The one that seems to get the most positive mentions is Magic at Wooloongabba 0432 493 376 3/11 Mount Joy St Wooloongabba. Trades under European Mechanical Specialists.

    Hope this is some help.

Thanks for that Ian. Looks like I took my pug to one of the undesirables. Should have thought to check in the forum first. I'll look up the details of the places you recommended and get the ball rolling.
    Cheers

    Hi
Slightly off subject , but I also have a srdt pug (2 actually) both had spongy brakes i found that the rear drum brake pads were worn and the slave cylinders were leaking replacement parts for 2 cylinders and set of drum pads should be approx 200-250 bucks (no labour) takes about 1-2 hours to do the job if your an amateur like myself

Hi Susan. From what I gather Robert from Le French has a very good reputation. I would suggest you try and get in contact with him again and see if he can help fix your problem.

I don't know anything about Magic, but I've heard many reports of bad Peugeot mechanics in Brisbane. Some people I know go up the north coast to Cullins to get their servicing done.

I actually bought my 405 from Gerald Cullen in 2004. Lovely man, good service & support. And you are right, they offer quality service and advice. Highly recommend them to anyone in the area.

    Default 405SRDT problems

    Hi KK Puggy,
I'm sorry if I came across as dishing Le French Motor but for me personally, I felt that I had to keep chasing him up for updates on the repairs and time frames. When I did get in touch, Robert was professional, upfront & personable. Now I feel bad .
    Cheers

    Default Look at this link!

    XU10 head removal + rebuild...Progress Started!

    Quote's from post....
This motor was built by a well known Peugeot 'guru' from SE Queensland. I would not be proud or happy to sell this sort of work to anyone. Im not sure how I would sleep at night if I did too.

The outer ring of the harmonic balancer has started to walk.
The lower cam cover has had something rub against it at some stage of its life but there aren't any marks on the balancer or the front pulley. It's still useable.
Whoever fitted that cover has fists of ham because the bolts attaching it are bent.

The conrod on Cyl. 1 had the bearing cap fitted the wrong way round.
The conrod was fitted to the piston 180 degrees out then fitted with the bearing cap in the same direction as the others. Pistons and bearings caps fitted in the right direction, no. 1 rod fitted wrong way round.

The crank which was supposed to be 88mm is actually 86mm. Not very happy about this but no use crying about it. Pistons are 87mm items so will be up for sale very soon to fund new items to be able to take the 88mm crank.

The head has been skimmed beyond safe repair and is also showing signs of corrosion. My builder has advised me basically that its beyond repair as the seats will become exposed if skimmed any further. Lucky I have a spare head lying about! It also has fairly bad corrosion that you can see in the photos.

You get the picture now read the post!!!

This is the 205gti "guru" from SE Queensland....Would you use him?

Hi, My name is Susan. I'm in Brisbane & I have a 405SRDT. Prior to that I had a silver 505 manual sedan which unfortunately eventually died so I traded it in for the 405SRDT at Cullens in Nambour. I had 6 years of perfect trouble free motoring until one day the timing belt broke. Ever since I've had that fixed, it seems something else goes wrong. That was the whole reason for this original post. I was desperate to find a good mechanic. I ended up going to Euroserve at Newstead. Ian & the lads were lovely & sorted out all of my 'issues' most satisfactorily. I'll definitely be back. And that's my story (so far!).
    Cheers everyone

    Susan

That post wasnt directed at you Susan but at the first poster called "the Magician" however it was great to hear you are sorted. Euroserve are good honest, non shonky people and are highly recommended.
    Nice choice ! :}

Default Mechanic for 405 SRDT in Brisbane

Thanks for that Jr. For a moment there, I thought I had done something wrong or offended someone somehow! Euroserve were saying that they can't get brake shoes that fit the 405 anymore, so in 10 - 15 kms, they are going to reline the ones already on the car. I don't really understand some of this 'car' stuff but was thinking it odd that this is the case. Can anyone simplify an explanation for me.
    Cheers

    Icon10 Ash in Graceville

I have just found a great service centre for European cars in Graceville. It is called "Ash Prestige" in Graceville Brisbane.

Now I have not had any work done by them, but when I went in for a quote they were amazing. The price was very competitive, two of the guys there were actually french speaking and have been with other dealers in Brisbane for about 20 years, and they were open to me bringing my own parts and fluids. They also stated they would match the price of my genuine parts if I could find a better price.

The head mechanic came and looked over the car like a true professional, (with little torch in hand) and explained the issues that occur with the pugs of my sort. They went all over the car for at least 30 minutes without even a hesitation, and told me the things that I should be aware of. And to top it off they gave me a verbal rundown that my car was in great condition even though I was concerned with some things.

Now I might be young, but I am a Therapist with a lot of experience in people. I dont claim to be able to "know what people think", but I was impressed.

They will be my service centre for my 607.

    Hope this helps.
