Default Peugeot 306 s16 in the for sale ads

As this forum does not allow me to comment directly on the for sale ads I'm dumping these comments here. I bought a '95 306 s16 from David Cavenagh some time ago. One of David's "too good to wreck" cars. Boy, are these a well kept perfomance car secret at a bargain basement price. It brings a big grin to my face every time I get behind the wheel, it is so responsive. It's not that I lack for choice in drivers being the owner of a Porsche 911 and Citroen SM amongst others, but the s16 is such a buzz. Grab it while you can and enjoy.

    I did say: "one of"...

either way... 2000 is tiring as it has nothing down low.... sure its entertaining if you like wringing its tits off... as a handling package.... it couldnt catch the s16...
gti is 100cc short so is disqualified...
Sit down... do the maths and the s16 really does shine... think of it as a heavier 205 mi16,...
its balanced... its agile...its raw... and when driven in absolute anger its devastating....
I d choose an mx5 over 2000 any time of the day....

Look at the acceleration in top gear 60-90km/h. s2000 7.7sec, s16 10sec .... for a motor that needs to be wrung out, it still convincingly beats the pug.

Its nonsense that the hondas have nothing down low.

Both the frenchies over cook it trying to stay in front, and the honda just cruises past.

Jo... have you stopped reading the threads properly.... I never said the s16 was more powerful or faster... NEVER... I said: "as a handling package"... it couldnt catch the s16... So to put it in another way... if the same motor (the greatest thing about the s2000) powered both cars then the s16 would be a better handling car.... I am certain of this... And you absolutely have no right to bring up the Alice crap when I ve driven more cars than you ve had breakfasts... especially relevant here as I worked for honda and have driven almost every variation of their vehicle from the civic to the legend...
FFFS look at your own information... the 2000 reaches its peak torque at a stratospheric 7500 rpm.... the s16 at half that...

Sorry Dino, when you said it has nothing down low, I thought you meant it had no pick up at low revs.
Looks like that's not the case compared to a s16 as the low rev acceleration times indicate.
Maybe I misread what you were trying to say.
Lately you've been saying so much sh!t can you blame me??
Perhaps compared to a modern V8 it is gutless down low, but that comparison is as relevent as saying if a s16 had the honda motor blah blah blah... It doesn't and thats that, so to even bring it up is silly.
All that maters in this comparison is that the s2000 has more than the s16 and it does.....heaps more.

And when you said re handling it couldn't catch the s16, I thought you meant the honda would be outhandled by a s16(because obviously it is faster and more powerfull) which it obviously wasn't on the track as both the clio and the s16 over cooked their tyres.
Again maybe I misunderstood what you were saying, but I thought you meant that the s16 was a superior car in the handing dept.

Im gonna have to go with the pug...
My friend just recently bought an EG civic with an engine out of a CRX (1.6L vtec) with bigger throttle bottle and inlet manifold. These are meant to have about 116kw at the fly (stock) but it still wouldnt keep up with my 205mi16 or my friends clio sport.
The vtec motors are completely GUTLESS below 6 grand. Ideally you would want a 6 speed gearbox with shorter ratios to hit that vtec earlier and more often...

The earlier vtech were a bit shit down low. My best mate has an EP3 Typr R Civic with a mild tune and is much quicker than a Mates GTi6205

I'm impressed by the number of comments that my original post generated. However, I think that you all partially missed my point which was that S16 now offers high oerformance at a bargain basement price. These cars were around $40000 when new but can now be had for peanuts - we paid $1200 for ours. Try finding a performance Honda for that sort of money.

i remember 10-12 years ago Colin from Alpine Affair telling em that his favourite driving car was a 306 S16 - said it was just awesome.
I thought that was a pretty impressive call considering his Alpine.....

My 306 s16, I had to ring its neck off to get it moving and it really didnt impress me at all

Going back to honda's s2000 and comparing it in the handling department myself (after driving both cars hard) it would make the pug look silly on a nice twisty road

As for comparing cars I have had over 450 in the last 15 years of driving and drove way loads more than that!!

I like the how the 306 rallye drives, especially compared to the s16 although I dont think that came out here its lighter has a 6 speed and has 167bhp

A quick translation of what the guy says:
The 306 starts 20 seconds ahead of the 911 & does 0-100 in 8.4 sec
The 911 starts 1:20 ahead of the McLaren & does 0-100 in 5.6 sec and reaches 270 kph.
The McLaren does 0-100 in 2.4 sec and reaches 340 kph

According to my calculator, that's one new car every 12 days. When do you get to sleep?

    Sounds like a motor dealer.

An S2000 would be off the road unless it smoother than a runway. First bump and the pug would see it. Love the s2000, they just have a bad image over here IMHO

S16 is a great car especially for the super low money you pay for them...

S16s are not just great... they are bloody brilliant... Gti6 was faster through a corner than the Rex of the era... s16 would match gti6 handling IMO... would an s2000 out-handle a rex...??? questionable...

    Default cheep cars

i agree in the uk cars are silly money you can get a car for 50 pounds run it for a year then get another when the roadworthy (MOT) is due cost more to fill it up . when we came to melboure i nearly fell over laughing at a dealer tried to sell me a ford mondeo that i know was 500 pounds in the uk for 9k over here, to quote an aussie icon "Tell him hes dreamin".

We have our 306 s16 and ive had all the usuall hot hatches Escort XR3i golf GTi when i was in the uk and driven in a lot of other monster stuff including my brothers 400hp sierra cozzie ( thought the speedo was a rev counter) that thing went at warp speed 5.

the pug is a great car to drive ( we are always on the lookout for some good corners) You have to get it past 3500 revs and then see ya . a little like america aussie cars V8's especially the older ones which the young guys drive around in roll and lurch through every corner its always funny to watch one from behind. Bogans love a cheap commodore.

heres hoping it will increase in value over the coming years into a future classic as they get rare usually due to heater matrix and twisted heads common problem which we have found to our cost.

ps it still a great looking car even by todays crop of hot hatches (i do like the look of that renault coupe though)
