Default my 307 wagon's guzzling petrol

Just bought it, first tank of unleaded, and the fuel gauge is bit more than a quater down already. having done 60k's!

I filled it up from totally empty to full, and it took 54L (60L tank).
If the fuel gauge is right, then that calculates at 15L/60k = 25L/100k of inner city driving.
    Nrma fuel guide says 8.5L/100k.
    What the?
I googled petrol guzzling and possible causes...
air flow metre/pipe, oxygen (O2) sensor, blocked air filter

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

    cheers

Don't bother using fuel gauge to calculate consumption. Too inaccurate. Measure the distance travelled between 2 fills of the tank and amount of fuel required to do the fill.

Perhaps the servo is slanted i know my regular one is by the time I get home (2km) ive used a quarter of a tank. But if u think it's still dumping too much fuel get it checked out quick smart before ur cat goes trust me a clogge exhaust is not fun.

Thanks for that, I will do the fill to fill measure, and see how she goes. reassuring to hear you've experienced a 1/4 tank drop on a 2k drive. Sound advice about the cat,.... and the car came with peugeot spark plugs, want to keep them clean!
    cheers.
