    Default GTi6 Suspension

Have been looking at the GTi6 U.K website about possibilities of suspension upgrades. I had a wheel adjustment done out at Ringwood. This corrected the slight shudder from the steering up to about 80'ks an hour.

The big problem I have is when the car is over 100kmh, it shakes like a bi#$h. Also the steering is very stiff, it handles like a dream. The question I ask, do other drivers have this problem. Is it common to the GTi6, I haven't got a lot to spend and was pondering my options.

Any advice would be great, have gone through some old threads but they don't really answer my question.

    Cheers

My steering is pretty light. I would check wheel balance if I were you. Peugeot whelks have no centre bore(?) that means the regular method of balancing used by your mug punter tyre shop doesn't work for our wheels. They have to fit a special adaptor (and own it to put on) to do the job.
Quite often they stay quiet about wheel balancing or worse tell you they did it, and charge you anyhow.
Call around to find somewhere to get them done.

I was reccomended by someone on the forum to use Stefan at Eastland Tyres, this is a good hour from my place. He has done a heap of pugs. He said the camber was off, but he was unable to adjust it. So just really think the only option is to take it to a suspension specialist and see what they can do.

Can I have all your standard parts when you rip them out?

My 6 is smooth up to about 225...no shudder or shakes....

Difficult to think you could 'upgrade' the suspension of a 6. Replace - sure. Lower - sure (but why I don't know). Spend heaps of money on - no problems. Maybe a little more rebound control would be nice, but generally a 6 is regarded as having some of the best Pug suspension of recent times.

Oh yeah - my steering is nice and light as well. Not too light like some other manufacturers.

Wish mine was the same. Oh well will keep plugging away until I fine the problem. Think its the steering rack at this point.

The suspension parts are in good nick anyway so hopefully someone will grab them.

I had a power steering pump failure on my Xsara (a 306 in drag), and it failed gradually. Replacing it cured what had become intolerably hard steering.

It just needs a wheel balance as Karoshi said. The cyclone wheels do not have a centre bore, so you have to find a tyre place with a Peugeot wheel adapter. I found this out the hard way as well. Bought new tyres and Bob Jane's didn't tell me they weren't capable of balancing the wheels. Went for a drive up to Newcastle the next day and my car shook so much, I thought my arms were gonna fall off.

Sounds like a balance problem. Hopefully not caused by a bent rim.
I have to warn my local Bob Jane when I book in so they can put an adaptor thingy on their machine.

Had a balance and new tyres fitted. Alignment done as well at a pug specialist. Thinking its the driveshaft so will be looking at having that done. The shuddering only occurs under hard acceleration on the freeway. Every other time it's smooth as silk and turns on a dime

Still not rectified, front rim replaced. Wheel balance and alignment done by universal motors in Richmond. New coilovers all round as well as tyres. Now just need to see when my trusty friend Bobomacho is free to do the drive shaft. I'm scratching my head as to what else it could be, will also me replacing engine mounts while we are at it.

My Xsara has a bit of a wobble on hardish acceleration. Seems to clear once the revs rise. Does not seem to be speed related, although at about 115 it has a little harmonic vibration, probably to do with the wheels and the fact none can balance them correctly. Im fitting new from LCA bushes, engine mounts etc soon so will report back.

How are your front LCA bushes? SOmetimes the hubs, where the balljoint connects can oval causing similar symptoms. I had this on a 205 once. SOunds like engine mounts more than anything to me.

Replaced the front bushes and the lower engine mount, will be doing the rest of the engine mounts next week. Fingers crossed this rectifies it, Cam how'd you go with the seats?
