    Default 504 / 505 GearBox Identification

    Hi,

I'm trying to identify a couple of gearboxes that I have, and need some more expert help!

Photos A are of what I think is a BA7/5

Photos B are what I think is a BA7/4, although the bellhousing appears to be different from other 504 boxes I have seen. It was from a late 504 Familiale retro fitted with a 504 TI motor.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Neil

Gearbox "A" looks like a BA 10 to me.

    Agreed with the above.

Gearbox A is definately a BA10/5, the giveaway is the plate on the end of the fifth gear extension shaft held on by 3 bolts. On the BA7/5 this is replaced by a threaded plastic plug. The bell housing is to suit an XN motor.

Gearbox B is a BA7/4. It is also for an XN motor, but it is the late (post 1979) bellhousing design, and it will have a rubber seal on the input shaft in place of the earlier oil slinger. (note that the BA7s fitted to diesels didn't get the rubber seal until about 1982).

You can see how the BA10 wouldn't fit into the rear gearbox mount on a wagon. A custom mount is required.

    Default Gearbox identification

Thanks Beano, Uffee, Pugrambo & Scotty.

Appreciate the collective wisdom of Peugeot enthusiasts. I was told the box I thought was a BA7/5 was from an STI, so perhaps it had a swap sometime in it's life? I was looking for a BA10/5 anyway!

    Cheers,

    Neil
