Default 206 gti 180 stereo beeping

as some of you may have read i just bought a replacement standard head unit for my 206 it works perfectly even with my aux attachment in the cd changer but there is a beeping (not from the stereo) loud and intermittent. it a single beep say every 2-3 seconds and fairly loud. has anyone experienced this. i had this happen to me before with my old head unit but turning the battery on and off stopped it. is there a code i need to put in or anything...HELP!!!

Thought you had to Code the Head Unit to the BSI as part of the Security/Anti-Theft in the CAN BUS equipped units. Might be wrong as I've only just started the Peugeot learning process.

I think you may be onto something.

Ah, if you've bought a 2nd hand factory unit off another 206 owner, then the stereo is telling you it's got the wrong VIN programmed in.

AFAIK, there's no option to recode it - it's an anti-theft feature. The stereo has to be in the vehicle that it was programmed for (ie. the one with the same VIN).

What was wrong with your original unit? Might be able to swap out the board the has the flash memory containing the VIN info?

Also see units for sale on ebay UK where they offer to code in your VIN. Not sure how that's done (cable, direct flash eeprom etc.) but you could always ask how it's done.

Arghh that's so annoying has anyone done the flash memory swap? Or know how to reprogram it. What if I take it to peugeot?

you can always ask a dealer to recode it. its not unknown for the radios to loose their memory and beep, and require the VIN to be entered into them to stop. Cant see why this wouldnt be a similar scenario
