Default Aircon diode - 306 gti - Short circuit

    Hello fellow froggers!
I have a short circuit in my aircon and I was wondering how to remove the centre control unit? I have been told it is a faulty diode?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Almost certainly the diode. Mine has been running without one for about 18 months without trouble. I cant remember the details on removing it.Start with the console and work your way up.

There is a an earlier thread on this diode and how to get to it. You start with pulling the radio out from memory. Maybe do a search.

The diode is hidden in the wiring loom (or at least it was on my early 87 GTI) behind the centre dash control buttons. You do need indeed to take out all those bits of plastique de merde they call centre console unfortunately. Or just smash the bastards. You'll probably break most of the little prongs and feeble tabs that hold the screws anyway, and you're not going to get any replacements you can use. What an idiotic design. All the screw holes are at corners and in the most difficult to access places and most prone to break off if you pull in the wrong direction. And of course, the critical screws are on those puny plastic tabs extending out in various directions and they hold the entire weight and take all the strain. AAAAARGH!

Sorry, I just noticed you were talking about 306 not 205. Nevermind. AAAAARGH!

do you mean the heater control panel? If so very common failure. Also easy as.... to remove. If you need directions just ask.

I was just thinking, if I could have to peoples point of view on the job and have it worded two different ways, then I would be able to understand it better (:
