Default Peugeot 206 air conditioner question...

Hi all, I'm looking at buying a '99 Peugeot 206, took it for drive, looked it over, all good.
One thing that I did notice is that the air con would make an intermittent hissing noise through the vents, every minute or so, for about 5-10 seconds. The owner tells me that it's the compressor kicking in.
Is this normal for the 206? Or something I should be worried about?

The air con worked well and blew nice cold air by the way....

    Thanks in advance.

    Default 206

I'm not sure on the 206 but when I turn mine on in the Citroen C3 it makes a lot of weird noises. I have been told its things opening and closing and every now and then it makes a weird noise something like what you describe but im not sure if its the same thing?

    Mine needs regassing I think.

My 2001 gti had the same symptoms. It needed the reciever/ dryer replaced and then the system regassed. Cost about $350 I think.

From what I can tell the compressor dying in the 206 is a common occurrence. The cheapest I've found new ones is around $1000, so be wary of that.

Mine does the same, got it fixed once. The car was regassed by a different AC mob than my usual, the noise returned, but it still works great.
