    Default pug 106

Did anyone see the pug 106 97 model with only 30,000 kays for sale in this weeks melbourne trading post, it even had a sunroof and is only $5900. Is this normal, I thought they were rare in aus, and this price seems verrry cheap indeed, Cheers, Dave

They certainly are rare here as they were never imported here officially by Peugeot.

In Melbourne there is a red 106 diesel, it went for around $4k I believe.

Bear in mind, sunroofs used to be very common as standard equipment in the UK. You basically found them on everything. Now the Poms have discovered air conditioning instead.

Kind of silly having a sunroof in the UK, don't you think

That is probably the same one up for sale again, this one is red, don't know if it's diesel though.

In GTi form these are very quick little cars and the handling is excellent.

    Shoulda called it an "overcast-roof"...

I think the 106s look great, wish they'd brought them to australia - particularly in GTi spec. CAR and EVO mags still rave about the 106GTi. They sound like great little cars.

My aunt in the UK has a sunroof in her Ford Fiesta 1.1 It doesn't actually open fully, it only tilts up at the back. It's done manually. My cousin has a sunroof in her 1994 Golf 1.4. Her car is the powerful car in their house! The insurance on the Golf 1.6 was double that of the Golf 1.4. It's electric I think... My aunt thought it was disgusting the Renault Scenic DCi and Pug 206 XR Presence (1.4) I have turned up at their place in didn't have a sunroof. I showed her the aircon button

Reminds me of the standard manual roof for the Megane Cabrio, listed in the car manual! The electric powered roof (standard in Australia) is optional apparently!

Yeah 106's rule, they never came to Australia because they could not get air-con and power steering under the bonnet for Aussie models, jeez the late 205 GTi's engine bay is crapmed enough. There is a guy in SA with a 106 S16 (GTi) but it is left hand drive and he can't register he is currently considering do a conversion but he's not a 100%. Performance wise they are about the same as a 205 GTi.

    they were sold in japan
i read a report in a car mag ages ago about someone taking one for a spin over there and they did nothing but rave about how zippy it was
the car in the article was a blaze yellow one in case anyone ever finds a copy of it

Not the same 106 known to PCCV members, that one has number plates "MY106", and it lives in Ringwood. I think it's older than 1997, too. 1997 is probably series 2.

Cant believe you never got the 106! Ah well, at least you never suffered too many MA series gearbox failures and the appalling head gaskets used on early GTi's!

here's a pic of my series 1 1.6 XSi with Esquis front bumper and GTi (1.6 16v) engine converion

There were issues fitting air con and power steer into that car, which would be a real problem in Oz. AC is an essential accessory here. I think there may have also been some safety issues with the car complying with Australian standards.

The kiwis got it though, didn't they?

re: sunroofs, if even got one in my UK built Super S Micra! It's such a unique thing in a small car!

A lack of side intrusion bars was frequently cited as a problem for launching the 106 here when it was still young.
