604 with Commodore V6 for sale

This car has been seen before, now up for sale again. A 1981 604 powered by a 3.8 litre Commodore V6 and 4 speed auto. It would probably be quite a nice package, no?

car would be nose heavy. interior in my opinion looks 'orrible

cheap @rse handle on bootlid is a disgrace, why the hell drill holes in the bootlid for a handle when there is one just under the lip anyway

and why not have gone to the trouble to convert to manual instead of yet another auto swap

i wish him the best but at that price it makes good original cars worth that and more

Every car I've seen with the Holden V6 installed looks like it was an original item. Simca Vedette. Triumph Stag. Peugeot 604.
If done well they should all end up as reliable transport.

A 504 owner I know fitted a similar handle to his boot lid. Understandable because when closing, the lid at a point becomes uncontrollable.
It was done mainly for his missus.

The earlier Buick V6 is probably one of the few engines I'd probably prefer as an auto.

They have really good torque down low but don't rev all that well which makes them fairly well matched to an auto when you just want to cruise around.

Kind of the opposite to the BMW M30 engine which IMO is terrible when mated to an auto but awesome when fitted with a manual.

The later ecotec engines are a little better in the NVH department.

Yeah, VN V6 Commodores sound horribly harsh when being thrashed by a P plater. Falcon sixes sound much smoother and gruntier.

has been around for some time up here ,and has been used extensively ,i had some work done by the engineering mob who adapted the Holden gearbox to take the torque tube ,this was some time ago ,and stood the test of time ,its no Pebble Beach car but would make a great cruiser ,i looked at a 405 parts car he had on e bay a while back ,he had the 604 then ,and has tidied it up somewhat ,didnt buy the 405 looks like its still there ,PUGS

What I'm seeing here is a THM700 transmission with a modified rear housing, ready to bolt to a 5.0 litre V8 THM700, and with engine mounts that will most probably come very close to fitting the larger engine with little or no modification.

A 3.8 litre V6 in a 604? Meh. But an injected 304ci in a 604? Now we're talking

Totally agree! Thrashed V6 Commodes make me actually wince! Mind you, the older Falcons do as well, when they have a loud exhaust.

It can probably run for 6weeks straight without needing an engine replacement like the factory cars ... and if the donk ever does die ... head to your local wreckers and grab another for a few hundred bucks.

The round headlights just don't look right on the 604. That handle on the boot is from a 50's bedside cabinet.

The body looks in good condition and at least it has Peugeot alloys.

The Holden engine may be reliable but the car is no longer a real Peugeot

I really like 604's and they are getting very rare so i hope a real Peugeot enthusiast rescues this and asks for the original engine etc if the owner still has it.

I'd pay $2000 for the body and wheels.

Some time ago there was a 3hour bolt-on supercharger kit for that commodore motor (manufactured in Melbourne).

$1800 with a solenoid clutch.

My little boy "IBLOWN" fitted one to his 1997 commodore, with a bit of minor tweaking pulled 12.4 seconds at eastern creek.

That may wind the 604 up .
