    Default Pre-purchase Vehicle Inspections

Hi Froggers, wondering what advice you would have on vehicle inspections for a 97 306 GTI

Would the RACV premium svc be good enough at $322

    http://www.racv.com.au/wps/wcm/conne...le+inspections

or should a Peugeot Mechanic do it?

    Any advice appreciated

    Thanks

My experience (for what its worth) is $322 at RACV would be a waste of money. Find a Peugeot specialist who knows what he's doing, betcha 10 bucks it'll be cheaper too

I'd agree with David on this. The 306 is fundamentally well-engineered and reliable. Like all cars, it has the odd thing more likely to fail than other things! The heater radiator comes to mind.

I'd get what you can of a service history, size up the owner and how it seems he's treated the car, ask him/her what they've done to it and then find that person Dave recommends. He's not recommended himself I notice, but he's seen the odd 306 in his time!

When we bought our Xantia, I had an RAC WA inspection, but I knew the person doing the inspection knew his way around French cars. We've had only two component failures in ten years (ignition switch and heater radiator).

A good hour of a good Peugeot mechanic would do the job I'd have thought, unless you are getting really serious (compression test for example). Maybe two hours and get him to drive it around too.

Yes, agree, a Peugeot service centre / mechanic or StateRoads are much better value & offer a more comprehensive report than RACV / NRMA etc. You can book on line as well.

    Cheers,
