    Default Peugeot assembly in Australia

Been doing a bit of family history

My grandfather used to have 'Peugeot' and '403' badges in his garage and I am certain he said he assembled these cars. I was born in 1951 so this is going back to late 50s, but I vividly remember these badges on his garage wall.

My mother said he assembled cars at Standard Cars in Port Melbourne , not Heidelberg. (although he lived in Brunswick, so Heidelberg would have been closer but I dont think it was going then)

Googling the web, the only Peugeots (and only 504's at that) assembled in Oz was at Heidelberg.

Were Pugs assembled in Port Melbourne?

They were assembled in Keys Rd Moorabbin by C and G before Heidleberg.
Don't know where Canada Cycles was based.
Harden and Johnston assembled cars in Sydney.

Yes there is a hint that Peugeots were assembled in Port Melbourne in 1954 - in another thread there is a quote from a jobs ad with the importers, Canada Cycle and Motor Co, seeking assemblers for Port Melbourne. There is also an opinion they were assembled in Flemington at one stage. But by the late 1950's they were assembled in Moorabbin at the Canada Cycle & Motor Co plant which was taken over by C&G in 1959 and moved to West Heidelberg.
Sorry, not Flemington, Tottenham. If he had 403 badges it would probably be Moorabbin or Heidelberg.

C&G is Continental & General Distributors. There's a pic of the plant on page 15 of The Boring 203 Thread.
