    Default 306 Service

Hey, it's been a while but i'm finally set to get back into pug.

I've got a hold of a slightly tired 306 that just needs a bit of love.

The first thing I'm going to do is give it a good service.

I was going to start with with following, but wanted to see if anyone had further suggestions of things to change to ensure trouble free motoring.

The car has done 157,000 clicks.

    Oil
    Filter
    Air filter
    Sump plug seal
    Sump seal
    New rotors and pads
    New alternator/air con belt

    Thanks a bunch,

    Jase

I would only change pads and rotors if they are worn out.... But I would change the coolant and brake fluid and check cam belt and change if overdue.

    Thanks Rod,

Coolant and brake fluid now on the list and unfortunately rotors are badly grooved so need replacing.

Cam belt, I'm told was done not too long ago.

Told, or have evidence? If that lets go, it's bye bye engine. If you do not have written evidence it was done, do it again.

I'll check into that. Thanks for the advice.

I was also wondering if anyone can recommend a good engine oil for these cars.

That time belt advice isn't 306 specific by the way - it relates to any engine of any make with a timing belt with a specific replacement schedule, where you do not know the history.

Have a good look at all the coolant hoses. If questionable, replace them. Is the coolant a good colour?

As for engine oil... Some people like to run the best of the best in their cars but I suggest spending about $25-$30 on five litres of whatever is on special at Supercheap/Big W etc. They don't run fancy valve gear, turbochargers, or rev to made in Japan (rotary joke) so you should get a decent run out of those oils.

Just remember, change your oil regularly, 5K is awesome, certainly no more than every 10K km.
