    Default 604 Oil level question

I do not have the correct dip stick for my new V6 engine .Its a Volvo dip stick tube and I have another dipstick that seems to fit in the tube

Would somebody know how much oil a 604 requires to be at the max mark after draining the sump but not removing the filter. Then I could drain and measure in the oil and mark the dip stick at the correct spot.

Or could somebody measure the length of a Volvo 2850cc dip stick

The upper oil level notch in the works coupe is at 440 mm.

We only use six liters and that includes the oil cooler.

    Rally,

The correct level for the PRV is shown in the attached page; Bit hard to read but it says - sans filtre 6.0L, avec filtre 6.5L. I can send you a higher resolution copy (and the other pages) if you PM me your email address.

I think mine takes about 6 litres after oil and filter change. The filters don't seem very big though.

    Rally,

I'd hate you to see you get into strife....

The dip stick markings on my geniune Peugeot PRV (ZN3J - 2849cc) are 54cm and 58cm (from the top of the tube). The dipstick and the tube are original. They may well be different for the 2664cc (ex 604s).

Mine is a works engine, so the dipstick tube may be modified/shortened. I think the safest option will be to fill with 5 liters and mark the dipstick, then add another liter and mark again so you get a range.

I believe all the numbers are in agreement, con, 6 or 6.5 liters depending on whether you change the oil filter. Mine takes only six because it has a gated, slighlty raised internally, sump.

    Thanos,

I think we've finally got to the bottom of the discrepancy: There seems to be a difference between the Volvo and the Peugeot variant of the 2849cc PRV.

I have in front of me the Volvo 760 v6 Workshop Manual. And, guess what? The capacity of the Volvo 2849cc PRV is quoted as:

    - engine only is 5.5L

    - engine and filter is 6.0L.

So, obviuosly Peugeot use an extra 0.5L in their ZN3J (2849cc) engines.
