So many 205's now. Who owns what?

With everyone seeming to want a 205 lately we have had an explosion of them on here.

I think it would be interesting to see how many there are and who owns what model etc.

A pic would be good as well.

    I'll start the ball rolling.

I've got a UK spec 1.6 series 1. an 84 model. Check out the 180-200hp thread in Performance Upgrades for the mods I am doing at the moment.

I have a 205 SI which will be used for Motorkhanas and Autocross as soon as I get some time, after the Redex Rerun that is! 10 years ago I had a S1 GTI which I didn't like, suitable only for high speed bitumen work, I thought.
The SI has great suspension and the car should go very well on dirt surfaces. Phil Torode has run one for a year and it is now the top non open wheeler car in Victorian motokhanas.
The throttle body injected engine doesn't have a lot of mid range torque but spins like a turbine, max power at 6,500.
When it wears out I would'nt mind fitting a 16 valve 1.6 206 engine, has anyone any ideas as to how hard this would be?

mine is an 88....RONIN plates make sure every man and his dog wants a race and the little 205 runs pretty hard: cold air box (that works), no cat and slightly larger exhaust up to rear muffler...car is original except that all the body trim has been repainted in gunmetal grey and it now runs red rubber inserts insted of the nasty aluminum jobs...its white, fully detailed (by me) including the engine bay that carries lots of high quality braided pipes...car is currently waiting for the gze supercharger and it will happen when i can get my but into gear...real lazy...will need to get heavy duty clutch and rear bearings are starting to make noise...but all in all..a beautiful little car that was previously owned by a 60yearold couple...

    cheers

Well, I have a S1 1988 gti, at the moment it is standard but i have an Mi16 engine ready to drop in the car when it comes of the road at the end of June.

The car will be given new Koni Yellows all round and 15ich wheels. Further down the track I will put a cage, race seats and harnesses and the car will become a purpose built track car.

See picture under current update of the story so far.

I have recently acquired a 1987 205GTi, Australian delivered. It is Graphite and shows 138,000km on the speedo.

It's not currently on the road but close...
The car should be RWC and registered this week, it spent the last couple of years sitting around with 'electrical' issues. Having only driven it down the street and back (with flat tyres) I'm looking forward to having a proper drive.

It all seems standard except for a body kit, front and rear air dam things and side skirts. It's not immacualte but presentable.

I have some pics but can't work out how to put them up with a post?

All these excellent condition 205's make mine look like a shit box.

No worries though. Mine was never intended to be a showstopper. It's got other duties.

    Hi fella's,
I have an 1989 205gti, go wicked, picked it up in Melbourne, it has personalised number plates
    "Go 007"
Goes well, but it seems to be really hard to find REALLY GOOD EXAMPLES..
The ones i looked at all had krap interiors, rattly, and so on.
Series II 205's are bloody awsome.
    Hard to find though.
I would love to Put an Mi16 motor in mine with TWIN WEBBERS....
    oh yeah...

    Hi Fellas,

My 205's a series 3 (manufactured 92, registered 93) gunmetal grey and currently undergoing a GTi6 motor swap.

Modwise, its got a 25mm lowering at the front with Jamex springs and reset rear torsion bar to suit. Magnaflow exhaust with 2.5" stainless mandrel exhaust (incl high flow cat) under construction as we speak. Bucket recliners and Momo suede wheel on the inside.

One cool thing I picked up recently was Marcus Gronholm's "Green Stuff" air filter from his WRC 206. Watching the frenchies dismantle his car in the pits at the 2002 Rally Australia, I was surprised when one mechanic took the air filter off, cleaned it and boxed it then threw it into the bin in front of me (just out of reach). Couldn't wipe the smile off my face after one of the mechanics handed it to me after they had finished with his car (had to ask for it in french though!!) In near new condition, used for one race only, its now on the 306 engine.

Had the car for 3.5 years now and wouldn't dream of parting with it (it owes me too much now) - just can't wait to bloody drive it again.

last time as i nearly cried when i let my last 205
    16v go
Its the old story m8, one gets them up to a standard you want then you sell the bloody things, then you regret it!! then you do it all over again!! Worse than women these 205's.

Well I'm a mad 205 fan (from 205 T16 days) and therefore have 2 at the moment although the CTi will be up for sale again soon. It's great to see continued support for what is a great car. I just enjoy the 'raw' driving feel that it has.

The first is a 1987 205 CTi cabriolet which is totally standard other than having the original 1.6 motor replaced with a 1.9 GTi motor.
    Pic is at: <a href="http://www.yambay.com/www/steve/cti/roof_off/rear_lq.jpg" target="_blank">205 CTi</a>

Then I have my 205 Mi16 which is really starting to come together now. Most of the base work was done by the previous owner and I have really been cleaning up a few areas like redoing the engine bay, removing the Wolf 3D ECU and fitting Autronics, redoing the loom, sorting out suspension etc. I had it out at Barbagello raceway on Saturday at a WRX driver training day and it was going incredibly well. It has a fair amount of goodies - here are some that I remember:-

    - BX16v (Mi16) motor
    - Mi16 gearbox
    - racing clutch
    - 306 kit-car intake manifold
    - injection perfection quad throttle-bodies
    - Kent adjustable cam-timing gears
    - LSD
    - 2.5 inch cat-back exhaust
    - Autronics engine management system & loom
    - Lightweight battery
    - Spax springs and adjustable coil-over suspension
    - 23mm peugeot-sport rear torsion bar
    - front and rear swaybars
    - adjustable strut-tops
    - 300mm Wilwood discs with 4 spot calipers
    - 16in road wheels
    - 17 inch race wheels Toyo 205-40-17 R-spec tyres
    - Momo racing seat
    - Momo steering wheel
    - Guttman body kit
    - T16 striping (well my version anyway)

    Some pics:
    <a href="http://www.yambay.com/www/steve/205_front.jpg" target="_blank">205 Mi16 Front</a>
    <a href="http://www.yambay.com/www/steve/205_side.jpg" target="_blank">205 Mi16 Side</a>
    <a href="http://www.yambay.com/www/steve/EngineBay03.jpg" target="_blank">205 Mi16 Engine Bay</a>

    Future plans
    ------------
    - small turbo conversion (likely to be KKK or as in the small Audis) as I don't want to lower the CR to maintain low-down torque and driveability
    - nolathane suspension bushes (being fitted this week)
    - 309 lower wishbones and driveshafts to provide additional negative camber

    Cheers

I have a 1987 205 GTi, it is stock standard done 180,00ish kms (can't remember the exact kms)

Had a minor engine rebuild because of a blown head gasket which led to a crack liner....apparently it is very difficult to crack a liner in a 205 because it is very thick liner.

A slight larger exhaust system, 2.25inch with 2in. tip

Koni's all round, standard rotors with EBC greenstuff pads.

Want to get discs on read but still can't found donor car.

It is good to know that we are having a large and growing group of 205 pilots.

I am based in Brisbane ...how many 205 drivers are in Brissy. We can arrange a group drive.

    Cheers
