    Default Series 2 Mi16 bent valve ?

I think I have bent a valve in my 405...it sounded originally as worn tappets but now it sounds like crunching and ping-ing metal in the head. Would this be the problem and is it worth fixing ? Or wrecking or another engine ?

Valves don't just bend. It's much more likely to be a thrashed out lifter/worn cam lobe.
As for whether it's worth fixing, get a quote on the job and evaluate from there. All the XU engines seem to be long in the tooth these days so a replacement wrecker motor is not a great idea IMHO. If the car's in good nick I'd definitely look into repairing the head.

Head rebuilds are not that expensive providing al parts can be checked and reused. Its the labor and parts required to fix anything that adds up.

    Is it 1.9 or 2.0?

I pulled the head of my car and it was never the same after
I then had another engine fitted (professionally) while it was out i had the head gasket rear main seal etc replaced and it had the same problems as the first after that.

Seems strange that you had work done and then because it was not the same did not bother to figure out why.

    What was not the same?

    Mines a 2.0L mate.
The lifter/s around that area were wearing but could it make such a horrible noise ?
It definately goes with the revs and just doesn't wanna go after 3000rpm...(that's when I was dfriving it home when the problem arised).
I usually go to Justin Fisher (in Balwyn, most vic froggies would know him). I think the best bet is to take it
to him and he'll diagnose it at least and tell me what I need to do.

Thanks for the input and yeah I took the head off my old Mi and it wasn't the same because I tightened it on too much, which eventually cracked the block (more than it already was) and died. Replaced it with a next to new Mi motor (1.9) and after a few weeks the head gasket blew and I had enough. So I know how these cars can be disappointing.

    Cheers,
    John
