Quite a few Gates belts on eBay at the moment. Bought one for the 205 Si, both alternator and aircon were listed. Haven't searched for 405 Mi16 belts but if they are not on offer the vendor might have a lead as to where to get one.
Supercheap don't usually stock much gear applicable to Peugeots but when I enquired they were willing to get an alternator belt and auto transmission service kit, Prices weren't too bad either.
Have always had good service from Lewin Partridge of Peugeot Spares at Everton Park Qld.
Lewin used to run a business servicing and repairing Peugeots and knows his cars. You can contact him on 07 3353 4448.

Was just trying to avoid the car off the road for a day as
the miss's has to run around with the kids.

I will just take it off tonight and measure it, then write
    the belt part number down.

Hey guys I got the belt off and measured it. It's a 5PK1270
if anyone else needs to know this for future reference?

All you have to do is go to Repco and ask for a belt in that
    size.
I have written the number down under the bonnet in
    permanent marker.

    Thanks for everyones help.

    Cheers Jason
