You know, Most likely it is just the lower control arm bushes. I just changed mine myself and it cost me less that $100.00

Have a look at the pics

    http://s1001.photobucket.com/albums/...ontrol%20Arms/

You have to Drill / Cut / Butcher the old ones out and wind the new ones in with a vice.

I have been meening to post up a how to thread but have not got there yet

This job took a couple of hours and a few basic tools.
....now watch a Peugeot turn into a corner!

Non of that stuff is overly difficult to fix. If you buy a 205 you have to expect to spend some coin.

It certainly shouldn't be sent to the crusher just for that.

A couple of hundred dollars worth of parts and about two hours work, someone is planning to make some big money on this one! Find out what parts exactly and what they are quoting for them, would be very interesting.

How do they come up with the amount. I like the $29.40 on top of the $1900 to make it sound legit.

I'd read between the lines and conclude that these guys dont want the job.
or if you do accept the quote, I'd say.....
If you are silly enough to bend over in front of them, I guess you cant blame them for shoving it in.

As Graham said. Get a quote of all the parts required, Im sure we can all help you locate the needed items and help you fit them..!!

Sounds way to much for the required bits, including fitting..

You can use the mi16/bx. Sell it and repair the 205 with the money!

    What's wrong with the rack?

I think too that the jobs you need to do are easy to tackle. Buy the parts, fix the car and keep in mind how much you saved.

No t so bad if the rack is included, although I've never seen a worn one yet.
Maybe it is the rack end ball joints?
$500 too much for a used rack, don't think you would be able to buy a new one but $500 would probably be a bargain if you could.
You could get a boot replaced at a driveshaft place for a lot less than the $120 they have quoted for just the boot.

That certainly is an excessive quote....

They clearly don't want the business.

Worth remembering that these joints make their profit on parts and labour.....

I had a quote to fit new brake pads and rotors on the front of a Ford from the local dealer at $1400. With less than $600 total in parts and less than 2 hours of my time when I did it myself.

Buy the parts online, and get someone to install them!

Cheapest way of doing it, if you aren't confident on doing it yourself!

Charging like a wounded bull that mob is, heavy quote! Hate to see what a head gasket or timingbelt/water pump replacement would set ya back! Just can do it yourself, its half the fun of owning a 205!

Its usually the lower control arm bush. Ive had trouble in the past, but just bought two new control arms. Perfect now!
