Default brake booster for 505 series 2 wagon

I am having trouble with replacing the brake booster on my 505 gti wagon series 2.

I have a pedal that is soft and creeping to the floor.

    I can hear air hissing.

My local dealer tells me it will be hard to get a replacement booster (he normally says this when I ask for parts).

Does anyone know where I can get a new or re-conditioned booster from?

I need it for Hank's Cape York trip in a month or so.

    Regards Graham

AFAIK the brake boosters are all the same series 1, series 2, diesel, & SW 505's.

Quite a few years ago I replaced the brake booster on a 505 SRDT that I recently sold.
My local brake shop in Penrith NSW managed to source a rebuilt one for me.

I'm sure there were old threads that mentioned someone who rebuilt them. I seem to recall he only answered the phone and not emails or something like that. From memory he was in Victoria somewhere.

I'll be joining on the Cape York trip too. I'm waiting on a new radiator and an 80 amp alternator off a Nissan Patrol RD28T for mine.

Why not give P504 a call?

    Sydney 02 94766066

Or Caravelle in Melbourne on 03 98909061

I'd be surprised if you don't get one from either of them. If not they should have leads for you to chase.

Sounds like two problems, soft and creeping to the floor indicates a master cylinder problem.
The pedal will go hard if the booster is faulty.
On the other hand hissing indicates booster problems.
So you're not taking a 403 to the Cape?

    Hi Graham,

The 403 is so beautiful that I do not want to risk putting a mark on it.

I only take it out to prim and pretty parades.

The 505 Wagon has been around Australia so many times that it almost knows it own way, and my wife insists on having air-conditioning.

I have picked up a good second hand booster and the problem with the creeping pedal seems to have been a leaking rear wheel cylinder. I had a spare in my parts department.

I am still looking for a couple of good or re-conditionalable water pumps for 403's. One for the ute and one for my spare parts department. Any clues?

    Regards Graham

Re. the 403 waterpump I will have something. Do you have a rebuilding kit?

He is not good on email, best to ring.

Thanks for that. I have a good second hand one now but I will send him the old one for rebuild.

Graham, No I don't have a rebuild kit. Where do you get them from?
Yes I will take your second hand one and I will keep it on the shelf.

I have been able to get a good used one and it should be on it's way. But a man can't have too many of these things. With three 403's on the road now and one more in the pipleline, waterpumps are in much demand in my shed.

    Thanks Graham
