Thanks, helpful pics. Wheelbase is spot-on, but there seems to be too much front overhang, unless there's stuff in front of the engine I could move elsewhere. I've only about 600mmm overhang to play with, possibly less.

Looked at those sites, but they only show soft-tops and estates. But I appreciate you looking.

I could do with dimensioned drawings showing steering wheel in relation to the front wheels, strut tower centres, and heights etc..

    Picky, I know.

You wouldn't, would you? I know we discussed it, but I thought............well, it doesn't matter what I thought.

    Default Couple more questions...

Seems I'm struggling to find any good drawings, so, irrespective of model, are the strut mounts and other important bits all in the same place? - if so, I can find a bog standard one in the scrapyard and measure all the relevant bits.

Is the 306 plagued by the (apparently dreaded) comm 2000 electrics?

Yes. However, to be cautious, try for one with a similar engine/gearbox arrangement. You get a lot of models over there we never see, and, although all the suspension pick-up points should remain the same, the height/bulk of a 1300 engine, or a turbo diesel, might be misleading. There were plenty of 306s, not GTi6, with the later twin cam engine.
