Hey to the very few fortunate enough to own a 605 i need to know as i don't have enough time to go searching the engine bay the whereabouts of the engine number

is it in the same place as the 604 at the rear of the engine ??

i need to know today as i have to get the car blue slipped

You mustn't be feeling well, not only is it not a 604........ You have bought a budget version the XM in bland cloths without the proper suspension ??? (don't worry, you still get the shitty non citroen steering).

PS: On the oil burner the only way to find the engine number is have the car on a hoist and be viewing from beneath

besides having a slight cold i'm feeling quite good

haven't driven an XM but if the step up from the CX to XM is the same as 604 to 605 then the 605 is one hell of a lot more car than the XM

i'm assuming the engine number will be under the car and hopefully in the same spot as the 604 as on top you have nothing but heads and it's nigh on impossible for any normal human to find a number there and surely they can't be that silly to put a number where it can't be seen

i'm hoping that someone knows and i can just go straight to it so i can sail through the blue slip and be home in time for a beer

The XM isn't half the car a CX is ..... It's ventilation works well though. Sadly PSA have "dumbed" everything down to the point where even a Poogoe driver would like it

If it's got the same steering as the XM and your used to driving something decent ..... You may have an urge to fit one of these:

Engine S/N on the XM is on the top, between the heads, at the gearbox to engine mounting face.

    Default engine number

pugrambo,i am assuming it is the same v6-12valve as the xm
looking from the front of car towards windscreen,
get a strong light, look under the left rear injector, inlet manifold area, in the vee,
the number is verticaley stamped on the block ,it is easy to see, just look sightly right below
    the inlet

i'll have to try and get in there and see if it is there

was thinking about giving the engine bay a bit of a pressure washing but knowing what PRV's are like with water i'll use a rag to wipe where need be

Leave it registered in QLD - they didn't have any trouble with the engine number - or didn't worry about it

is the the left as in front of the driver or left from sitting in the car ?

do i need to remove the upper most engine cover at all to be able to see this magic number ??

i did find the engine family (UFZ) stamped on the block so how far away would the magical engine number be ??

Am I the only AFer who's driven both lots of 605s and lots of XMs?

Funny how the XM was always my dream car but I kept buying 605s. Haven't yet spoken with anyone who knows both cars well and doesn't prefer the Peugeot. Ergonomically it is better too, allowing the driver to position himself for more confidence during very spirited driving.
    Cheers,

    'rambo,
You are to be admired on keeping your cool after your initial query.
The many purile, unrelated replies you received would have had me spitting the dummy.

On the engine numbers on the Volvo 264 V6. [604]. Our local traffic people would not recognise the rivetted on eng number label. We overcame this by using very long letter/number punches and stamping on the side of the block. Necessary to read from underneath.

Probably - driving from Canberra to Wellington via Sydney - as you do if you want to inspect a Peugeot
