Known Issues 406 ST HDI and Suggestions

Looking at purchasing a 406 ST HDI (Wagon). Auto.

Are there any known issues with the (automatic) gear box on these?

Is the station wagon a little sluggish?

I am after a family car (station wagon). I have had a 504 and currently own a 505. Both lovely cars but need something with even more space. Hence the station wagon.

Any other recommendations of Peugeot models? Diesel is good. But also happy to look at any Petrol models too.

Budget is between $10,000-$15,000

In case you think no one cares.
I have no first hand experience but the feeling in most posts is that the auto is a bit of a liability.
Do a search because the merits of the 406 have been debated before.
