    Default 306 s16...

I recently acquired a 306 S16 and unfortunately it has developed an unforeseen issue.

When starting the vehicle and driving for 20 minutes, it runs perfectly fine, after pulling over for 5 minutes or so and restarting the car, it will start running on 3 cylinders. The next day, it will run fine again for the same period of time, 20 minutes or so, until pulling over.

Does anyone have any clues? Would it be coil problems?

when driving in the 'first 20mins', is the car running on all 4 cylinders at all throttle ranges?

my guess would be to determine the cylinder which isnt firing (i think there was a thread on this recently) and have a look over leads, coils etc to see if anything looks faulty. next step would be to replace them... although im not sure why it would be fine for the first 20mins and then on 3 cyclinders next start up

It will be one of your coils. Faulty ones tend to play up when they get hot.

I would agree, sounds like a coil pack, better get on it soon or else it will fail completely.

I had to change one on my GTi6 recently (thread) and it is easy to find out which one it is. Just remove the cover plate and 1 coil pack and plug at a time, when you fine the fouled one replace that coil pack!

(obviously this won't work if you car is still running on 4 cylinders just before checking)

    Good Luck!

(Conversly you could wait until the problem appears, stop the car and unplug a coil pack at a time, start it in between each and see which one doesn't make it worse, but I'm not sure if this could possible cause any damage)

I've had this problem on other cars before and it invariably turns out to be one of the high tension leads. maybe try replacing them before doing the coil?

Sounds like a coil pack. The S16 requires a lot of attention and TLC. Unforeseen issues are a part of these vehicles.

However, having said that, they are a joy to drive. It depends how much you love her.
