    Default 406 V6 fuel consumption

Just thought I'd let you know the results of a quick trip to Melbourne in the 406 Coupé this week.

We're always hearing about how much more fuel the V6 uses over the 4 cylinder engines in the 406 range, so I've now measured it properly.

Whilst there is no doubt that around town, the V6 is a lot thirstier than the 4 cylinder, the exact degree is very much determined by your driving style. In sports mode, or with constant heavy use of the accelerator pedal, I'm able to get an average fuel consumption over a tank of fuel to reach nearly 20 L/100kms. But normal driving around town usually averages about 10-11 L/100kms.

This week was my first opportunity to test the V6 on the highway.

I filled the car to the brim at the bottom of the freeway in Adelaide. Drove to Melbourne on a single tank, the fuel light came on as I came down the Greensborough Highway, Mcleod, so I refuelled at the Shell there. A total of 778kms on the odometer, used 59 litres, or 7.6 L/100km. This was sitting on the speed limit with the cruise control on, and the climate control set to auto.

    I'm impressed!

I used to regularly get Brisbane to Newcastle 898 Km on 60 ltrs which runs out at about 6.8 l/100k ( ithink) and around 12 L/100k around Brisbane

Not quite as good as the 407 HDI at 6.2 l/100k and 9.8 l/100k around town ...I still prefer the 406 its a much better car better and quieter ride even handles better.
