    Default GTi6 3 cylinder :(

It looks like the hot weather has taken it's toll on my 306, I drove to work in the heat yesterday afternoon and fired up early this morning (I was working all night, so don't think nasty things of me!) and after the dash spazzed out a few times (8's everywhere and dead instruments) I was stuck with a 3 cylinder car to drive home.

Last time this happened it was a coil pack but it gave me a lot more warning. I think I'll replace all three of the remaining originals if this is the case, at 210,000 km I think they've done enough work.

Does anyone know if these are typically sensitive to hot weather, or had mine just had enough?

Also, last time I bought one from EAI, but they're closed until Tuesday. Any chance someone can point me in the direction of a shop that is open before then?

I've got some spare ones you can borrow. I'm in Box Hill.

Thanks pgti6, I might take you up on that when and if I can prove that the coil packs are to blame.

Yep, they dont like the heat those coils packs mate, mine have always played up on a hot day and failed completely within a couple of drives. I keep a couple of spares in the boot now!

Dont know about how the dash going crazy has anything to do with coils though, hopefully it is a simple fix.

Yeah, it seemed odd to me but the first time I lost a coil pack it was pretty consistent, the dash would light up and the car would run like poo for a while, then come good. Then of course the thing died completely. This time obviously it went a bit quicker, but I guess if things are going wrong with the coil internally it could be sending some rogue volts through the whole electrical system

    One day too late!

Got 2 from EAI yesterday, $115 or so each. Next time (I'm sure the will be a next time) I'll head for IMPARTS, they are the mob on Hoddle St aren't they?

Either way, I have all 4 cyliders back now, and a brand new spare to live in the boot. It's lucky these are such an easy part to change!

I'm not sure, I think for the 306 it was only the GTi6 that had the coil packs (XU10J4RS motor, same as Xsara VTS) but I doubt PSA would have moved to installing them on every motor.

...and I just realised you're in Hobart neilhack, so obviously it would be prohibitive for you get your parts from Hoddle St in Melbourne.

The name sound familiar anyway, I'll keep them in mind.

Yes I got mine in Hobart. I assume they are the same crowd in Melbourne?

Yes, the logo on the website looks like the same one I recall driving past.

Obviously now I have a spare in my car I'm not expecting to need it, ever.
