    Default 406 FAP Questions

    406 D9 ST HDi 2.0 Wagon 4sp Auto - built 2002/11

Hope you don't mind some newby FAP questions:

    • Handbook says a 2 Litre HDi with automatic gearbox has a particulate emission filter. But does it really?
    • If it does have a FAP, where is it and how can it be recognised as such? NOTE: The bulge in the exhaust pipe between engine and silencer is completely smooth, doesn't have a heat shield and doesn't seem to have any wires connected to it.
    • If it does have a FAP, where is the Eolys tank?

Looking forward to some enlightening answers!

    Default RHZ versus RHS

Am I correct in presuming that "RHZ" in the VIN means "HDi 2.0 80kW without FAP" and "RHS" means "HDi 2.0 79kW with FAP"?

FAPs were first used on the 307 range, in 2005 (or maybe late in 2004) with the new series engines, the 1.6L 80kw and the 2.0L 100kw HDi. Well, that's in Australia.

I don't know for sure, but I'd expect that your VIN number holds the answer - maybe start with the dealer. Have you asked whoever services the car?

If the car has a FAP then the large bulge (which is both a cat and and a FAP) will have two temperature probes and two pipes comong off of it that lead to a pressure differential sensor.

If it doesn't then it's a simple cat and not a FAP.

I thought that on the 406 only the 2.2 HDI has a FAP, but my knowledge is limited to Euro spec cars.

Thanks for confirming. Definitely FAP-less. Not sure why the handbook mentions a PEF (particulate emission filter)..

    Thanks. Great Resource: http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com
And good for the French vocabulary, e.g. "plaque de police".

Because it's the same handbook that covers the 2.2 HDI which does have a FAP.
