    Default Changing 206 XT cambelt

Are special tools needed to change the cambelt on a 2001 206 XT 1.6l 16v or can it be completed by a competent mechanical workshop? Thanks in anticipation.

I've never done one but there are very few timing belts that a competent mechanical workshop can't do. To make sure I'd try to get my hands on the workshop manual and have a peruse through the procedure, and if unsure pass it on to your mechanic. Often "special tool 18" is not that special, but is a relatively common tool like a twin cam gear locker or a 3 legged puller etc that any competent mechanic would have.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. Gives me confidence. In the interim I have tracked down a workshop manual that covers the 16v engine so I will take that along and have a chat to the mechanic. Only lists a couple of locating pegs and a belt clip as special tools.

As a CD on ebay from the UK. Same ebay listing as below but a different seller name. Paid A$10.50 plus postage. Covers 206/306/406. What is on the CD takes a bit of unraveling but I found the TU5J4 motor on it. Does not appear to be a complete repair manual but it had what I wanted on the cambelt.

    Thanks troppo
As a matter of interest I cheated today & pulled a 1.6 DOHC engine out of a spare car I have lying around (have Four others on road).
Once you have the engine out the timing belt change is relatively easy.
Found a few little tricks that will make life easier when doing it in vehicle.
Contact me if you have any dramas.
