    Default 308SW Windscreen Replacement

Unfortunately the Mrs came home and told me she copped a stone on the M4, the windscreen has a star shaped crack in front of the driver, about 4 cm from the edge.

Has anyone got any information or experience about replacing these screens?

    Initial price from O'Briens - $970!

Did you ask them if they could repair it?

I have had windscreens repaired before - much cheaper - good results.

    Cheers

That cost does sound unusual to me. Austo sensing wipers and the sensors add to the costs of replacement.

the sensors are attached to the screen are they not ??

get a repair done and quite often it is covered under your insurance policy

O'briens are only good at advertising, they rip you blind at every oppurtunity otherwise

Sadly it's too close to the edge to repair. Waiting on a price from Trivett as a comparison.

Insurance will cover it, but still want to avoid getting rolled in the process.

Yep, and everything after early 2006 as well. All lost in the great crash of 2010.

Al;though there may be aftermarket screens available they do not have thje athermic coating that the genuine ones hav... had a mate replaced his 307 with an aftermarket one ( Auto wiper version) and the never ever worked properly Athermic/Heated Windscreens are used to cut down on glare some modern cars are fitted with windscreens that reduce the amount of UV (Ultra Violet) light that is passed through them. These are Athermic or UV Coated windscreens.

my advice if the insurance compant is paying get a genuine

Correct, donít let them put an aftermarket screen on it. The 308 no longer has the film/coating (usually see as a purple shade) of the 307. But still important to get the genuine article. Just insist the wipers wonít work and they will not be confident enough to argue the point. I have had this arguement myself.
