    Hi,

Its a cabriolet, and the roof pump suddenly stopped. I was checking a few fuses in case it was a blown fuse. After simply removing and putting back a couple of fuses and giving up, i found that suddenly when the ignition is turned off, the battery light in dash stays on, the radio and clock also stays on , and the battery goes flat over night. Even d disconnecting radio there is still large current drain more than just a clock would draw..... Am having to disconnect the battery every time car is parked for a period of time.

interstinly, the electric foor locks have started working that previously were not!, also the clock used to always totally lose time before when ignition was off too..

so in a nutshell, what needs doing is sorting out the ignition problem, and also maybe sussing the roof problem too
    cheers

Sounds to me like the two problems are from the one cause.

When operating normally, does / can the roof operate when the ignition is in the off possition?

Reason I ask is - I would be putting money on an electrical failure somewhere near the motor / electrical mechanics that drives the roof, thus feeding positive supply back through the electrical system , in turn making lots of items work where they shouldn't.

You could say the main power is jumpered from one side of the ignition switch to the other!

If you can get to them, disconnect power from the roof motors, or the control box, the switch - even pull the fuse to them whilst keeping an eye on everything else to see if it has an affect.

I'm not an auto electrician (by trade) but have many years in the electronic industry... ( I see dead capacitors)

Im on the gold coast if you get stuck. Maybe we can meet up one day

Try Kev Fane.....He's near Chermside, Stafford.
He's the oldest Pug mechanic in Brisbane.

He'll at least be able to point you in the right direction.

Magic is the man. New business in Mountjoy St, Woolongabba, trading as European Automotive Specialists. If nothing else, he can tell you what needs doing and any costs before someone gives you a hefty bill and still can't fix it.

I thought that was his garage, rode my bike past the other week and saw some VERY hot GTis out the front.

If he is busy, try Robert at Le French Motor, also in Woolloongabba. He looks after my Mi16 and is highly regarded (even the tow truck driver I used once knew the garage!)

I've been using Le French Motor for years. Actually I have the same story about a tow truck driver.

Robert's a decent chap. He also seems pretty good at sourcing second hand parts or cheap but quality non-genuine parts (if you ask for it).
