BA10/5 synchro problems?
Just recently and all of a sudden changing into 3rd or 4th but more often 4th, the gearbox will crunch. When it doesn't crunch it seems there's a lot less resistance than 1st/2nd or 5th. Do I have the dreaded broken synchro spring problem?

Sounds like it. The giveaway is that it's both gears on the one plane.
It's not difficult to fix, but the gearbox does have to come out.
It's definately less usual for it to happen on 3rd/4th, the 1st/2nd gear synchros usually take a lot more of a beating!

I agree with Scott, I have gone through three 1st-2nd synchros in the works coupe box and the 3rd-to 4th is just beginning to show signs of wear. The same gearbox was used for some Jeeps (but with different gear ratios) so the synchros are easy to find and not terribly expensive.
