    Default Newbie 180 owner!

    Hey folks,

I purchased my first car on Sunday! A Pug 206 GTi 180!! I'm SO stoked that my first car is in my favourite car class - the hot hatch!!

I'll take some better photos when I've got some time

It's an '04 model with only 80,000ks!! There have been some minor mods, a custom 2.5" stainless exhaust (sounds super hot after 5000rpm ) and an Alpine head unit. I had to take out the cold air intake and subs for insurance I suppose I didn't really gain much from either

I was wondering, is there any way to make the dash lights turn on when I start the accessories? I know they turn on with the headlights, but I find the indicators quite dark during the daylight.

Sweet! Just checking in! I'll update later with photos! Hopefully I'll meet some of you at French Car Day - QLD next year

Hahaha, it took a long time to save up for (plus a bit from my folks ). It feels awesome to take possession after so much build up

I would see them all the time at shopping centers and on the road, and each time I would die a little inside... I'm now fully restored and loving it!!

OK, that was a little melodramatic, but the point is that I'm pretty stoked

Hey mate. Good luck with the car. I hope it goes well for you.I have had my 180 for 9 months now, and for the most part it has been pretty good.
    All the best

Well done, they are a great little car, had mine for 6 years and still will not trade. True about the cold air intake, I will send 2 dyno sheets that show the gain is little to none. but they sound nice. Dont Wreck it. if you do I will buy your seats.......I need a passenger seat. yeah, I saw the P plates.

Dibs on the engine and wheels! (not that we're wishing you any ill fate here) I also love all things hot hatch, and just bought my first car, a 206 GTi 138 (regular GTi). I'd love to attend a meet up event at some point, but I'm almost positive I'm the only member in Cairns... It should be no problem for the subwoofer with insurance, especially if you hook it up like I did (amp velcroed to floor in hatch, and subwoofer octopus strapped to the luggage hooks). If it's to do with a constant power wire to the battery, you could wire it up through the cigar lighter socket (provided it will draw under 10 amps or so...).

    Default Dash Lights

    Hiya Makio,

Having the dash lights come on with the ignition is a minor task. It would be a simple cut the + supply wire to the dash lights and feed it to the accesories circuit.

Find the wire that supplies the dash lights BEFORE the rheostat dimmer and your half way there. Get yourself a multimeter and a test light. The circuit can be found in a haynes manual if you get stuck.
....now watch a Peugeot turn into a corner!

I know a lot of it depends on the dyno, but shouldn't these things be pulling more than 92 - 93 kW at the wheels? My 160,000 km old 306 (124 kW at the fly compared to 130 kW for the 206) pulled 90 kW atw at the last AF Melbourne dyno day, and Josh's Xsara with the same engine with something like 200,000 km on the clock pulled 94 kW...

How did it compare to other cars on the day?

    Cheers,
    Stu

@ Blufires - Haha, thanks for the votes of confidence The wheels are actually in perfect condition, no gutter rash at all. I wasn't able to be insured with an entertainment system over $1000 dollars, so I just kept the head unit and an amp. I'm not worried at all, the subs in there were these old Type S's, they are pretty crap, I think it sounds better without them

@ PugMonkey - Yeah, I was thinking something along those lines, I'll have to have a look for a repair manual soon... Need moneys first

Makio - well done on such a great car. If you can, spend some hard earned $$ and undertake a driver training program. I took my GTi180 to Oran Park and learnt HEAPS about what the car can/can't do, and I was 29!

I sold my Blue MY05 in Brissy and now on the look out for another one. This time, BLACK!

    Cheers
