504 dash pad restoring

does any one know what is involved in recovering a 504 dash pad ?
can you do it yourself and make it look good ?
what material do they use to cover them with?
is there any one that will do it for a reasonable price ?(near sydney)

I had mine done by an upholsterer but I watched him do it and it is fairly straightforward. He stripped it completely, then glued a thin foam padding on it. After it dried he covered it with vinyl upholstery that he had pre-stiched to the shape and stapled it underneath. You can also skip the stiching step and it will still look okay. He then made two slits and installed the plastic vents. It took about an hour for the entire process.
