Default 504 engine identification & production year?

Despite vast searches somewhere there was a listing of the 504 engine numbers and the year os production.
I've a twin carby 504 with an engine number of 2976766X that I'd like to know the year.
    Any leads?

    merci

    Default 504 engine identification

These were sold here in about 1978 or 79 to meet the polution controls at the time. If you look on the side of the block, not certain if you can see withour the engine out, there will be a date like 24A78. The A or whatever is the month the block was cast - so you will get somewhere near it. There are also dates on the gearbox and diff, back of steering wheel. Hope this is of use to you. I will check with someone else tomorrow.
    Regards,
    Graham

    Default numbers

Yes thanks: the engine is high and dry on the hoist so Ill check the casting. There is no body that I could check any of the usual number areas: steering wheel, gearbox, axel housing.. and my history books are on the ute which is up on the hoist.

    Merci
