    Default Peugeot (205GTI) Mechanics Sydney

    Hi all,

    Long time no read.

Looking at getting work done to the 205 gti, driveshafts, gearbox, clutch, timing belt, brake seals, new pads, discs, possibly new hoses in engine bay.

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic who does a good job, who knows peugeot 205's intimately? I used to go to north shore rallysport, but no longer there. (in 2000 i moved to nowra, and did work myself ever since).

Now, a little more grown up, and sick of getting my hands dirty.

    Cheers

    Byron

I guess it depends on where you are located and how far you want to drive...

Paul Vasalo at Gladesville Prestige is highly regarded by the Pug brigade and I was recomended to Franc at West Goford Mechanical by a fellow AF member and in my limited experience with him has been fantastic and very very reasonable (but he does take his time!)....and always has a Pug out the front...

    Hi,

Yep Paul @ Gladesville is definately the name on this website but he is always quite busy.

I am taking my car to Colliers @ Granville on Friday for some minor stuff (injecctor clean, brakes)... apprently the business was passed on from his father, they used to specialise in Renaults (worked on factory Rally cars?) but the move to include Pug and Cit was obvious.

I havent really had any prior experience but they seem quite knowledgeable and have all sorts of Frog mobiles out the front.

I rate Colliers as No.1. They have been doing Peugeots for as long as I can remember. They are also CAMS Motorkhana champions.

I have been to eurotech in gosford, they are magic, But looooooong way to drive. They replaced my entire rear suspension assy (wasn't cheap ) but haven't have a sniff of a problem since (20,000k).

I am looking for sydney, for convience, so it looks like Colliers or Paul Vasalo at Gladesville Prestige. I am at wolli creek so driving is no problem. Suppose penrith might be

Thanks all. I'll make some phone calls.

I know I always sing the praises of PQ Automotive in Chatswood. (Prestiege Quality Automotive) but I really rate them.

They are very good, espeically with 205's and 306's. They always have a 205 in their shop. Piere and his mate are mad Peugeot nuts, and get around the workshop in Peugeot factory overalls. Their work is very good, even when they worked on my 206, it was the best service it had ever had.

    thanks nos.

I have done almost everything myself too. Replaced shocks, rotors, pads, shoes, gearbox, clutch, engine rebuild. just too much to really be interested in doing too much myself. I dont mind doing it, but now live in an apartment block, and have one parking spot, (pug is there, falcon is in visitor parking ) and its a bit hard to put it on stands, and work on it. I mean if you get it done in one day fine, but leaving it on stands overnight, and little kids walk past , and push it , and it falls off or on them ( i dont care about that bit, i care about getting the sucker off the ground ) ie a clutch or motor replacement. sigh.

FWIW Eurotech at Gosford has been sold by the original owner Andy Crane.

They were the Citroen delaer up here for years (and for a time Lada as well ) in the dark days of FranzCar and more recently opened a Pugeot Blue Box outlet next to their Citroen dealership.

Andy was very knowledgable and passionate about froggies personally so it will be interesting to see how the new owners go....

Has been purchased by the previous owners of Central Coast Motor Group (VW; Nissan; Subaru; Mazda; Chrysler Jeep; Mercedes) so they are well exeperienced in running a prestige dealership but not necesarily true Francophiles like Andy was.

Are these guys the old Pymble Auto Service? If so I used to use them for my 205 ten years ago and they were great .

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I AM LOOKING TO AVOID. And the reason I started doing all my own work on the car. I knew if I had done it up, IT WAS DONE UP! Alan MacKay Autos at Mossvale (where i purchased the car) had to replace the clutch in my car after me having it for 3 days. (thank goodness I negoiated 1 month 500km warranty outa them ) When they pulled out the gearbox/engine, they snapped all the pipes on the back of the A/C. Never fixed it. Never wanted me back again. never went back again. This scared me off mechanics. Sigh.

I just got my falcon repaired (low speed LHS front accidient). They didn't focus the head light. They hadn't done up to Mounting bolts on the headlight, they had left 2 hairs (yes human hairs) in the freshly painted guard. Makes me wonder what else was wrong. I hate relying on others, and luckily found all these things wrong before I left the shop. They fixed them all on the spot, but why should I as a consumer need to check someone elses work. I mean these people are professionals. Big no no.

My rant over. Going to drink. er I mean work.

the first visit (yes.. I went back.. I'm an idiot).. 12 of the 16 wheel studs were loose... 6 of which were all but hanging on by a little bit of thread.

I then had huge steering issues where the car was 'sometimes' wander over the road from their work... turned out (months later) that they x-threaded the lower control arm ball joint and didn't replace it.. i.e it wasn't tight and effectively changing the steering geomontry... it was hell for months..

All work on any car that I own (of fam) that isn't warranty based is done by Pacific Motors Pymble... they I can trust.

I wouldn't trust the guys from portapug as far as I could drive to them! Purchased a 205 gti from someone who had all their work done there. Two months later took it to P504 in Waitara under recommendation from a friend and the mechanics there said "whoever worked on it was a butcher". Also went there (portapug) shortly after buying said car and asked them to insert a bolt that had been left off when the cam belt was changed and after putting the wrong bolt on they told me they wouldn't charge me!

Not wanting to be a first time whiner, but steer clear of these cowboys. I live in the eastern suburbs but will gladly provide P504 with my patronage due to their friendliness and service. Which is what you want at the end of the day!
