    Default 205GTI oil

    All,

What are people using for oil in their GTIs. ELF, TOTAL etc and where are you getting it from? Is mobil or Shell etc ok to use (assuming correct grade)?

    Cheers

I will second the Shell Helix, have been using it for about 2.5 years, great stuff, also have a look at Elf, supposed to be really good as well.

    Default Oil

Yea use the Shell Helix, the semi synthetic one that comes in a blue bottle, it realy cleans the engine well. Also Shell Optimax Petrol seems to keep 205 GTI's running very nicely.
and no I don't work for or have shares in Shell

    Hi,

I also put my hand up for Shell oil (although in Europe Mobile is considered the best I heard). But I use Lucas stabiliser as well so as long as the brand is "decent" I'm not fussed.

One place that I know that does sell ELF oil is Autobahn outlets in Sydney but from memory its quite expensive there.

    Cheers,

    Stan

Mobil Synth S 10W-40 oil & Mobil 8000 petrol is my choice. a little more expensive but i find it quite good. the 8000 seems a little better than BP ultimate which is my second choice.
btw ASV in villawood sell ELF oils(good price) & new pug parts.

    Default Mobil 1

Have been using it since I purchased mine in 1999. Use it in new engine too, and no problems .

the only reason i use Synth-S & not Mobil 1 is cause its semi-synthetic. then again my pug is S1 '87.

Shell Ultra Helix 15W-50 is a full synthetic and much better for an 8V than 10W-40.

    I'm using ELF 20w60 (yikes!!!).

My 205 is burning oil like a mofo, and was leaking a little at the oil filter!!!

Quick Q, can I go back to a thinner oil once I get the oil burning problem (ie, stem seals) sorted ?

Hi, am looking at oil recommendations for my 280,000Km S2. As the oil companies and Pug sages had suggested, I should be looking at a 15W-40. It appears that the above 'full synthetic' Ultra Helix doesn't seem to exist any more... their Ultras are either 5W-30 or the Racing version at 10W-60. So is the semi-synthetic 'Helix HX7 K' 15W-50 the go nowadays.

    TIA
