    Default 405 Mi16 Engine Rebuild

    Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone could help me get an idea of the average cost of rebuilding a engine in a 1992 405 Mi16. There's one for sale nearby quite cheap, though it has done 416,000 ks. I am sure a rebuild will be necessary some time in the future, so I wanted to know what financial commitment I would be in for.

    Thanks.

Is it a series 2 (ie) 2 Litre and has it been done previously, if so how long ago, how has it been maintained and do you intend doing it or paying someone to do the entire or part of the job?
I'm about to take off, but I reckon that's the stuff they'll need to know.

If it ain't broke, use a 12" shifter.....that usually does the trick!!

I am fairly sure the 2.0's came out in 1993, this is a 92 model... I don't think it has been done before... I intend to pay someone to do it as I have next to no mechanical knowledge. The guy selling it tells me it has been 'highway driven' mostly.

    Thanks

    More information:
"The head has just been done, $1500 in receipts. Bottom end maybe 1500 again. Still drives fine, but bottom end will need to be done sometime."

    Thanks for any help.

You should be paying bottom dollar for that car at those miles, as you'll probably have to spend a fair bit. I'm not warning you off, as it might be a pearler with a worn engine, but just making you aware.
